Penn State Scandal

Giving Mike McQueary a Pass?!

11/10/2011 12:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Penn State fires Joe Paterno, but says it's cool for Mike McQueary to coach this weekend? The same McQueary who, according to testimony, witnessed Jerry Sandusky's alleged rape of a young boy.

Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and a former PSU player -- joined us to rip his alma mater's handling of the scandal. Plus, student body prez TJ Bard tries to explain why some students are on the fence about an issue that's so black and white.

Outrage and frustration -- two things you'll feel after today's episode. We did.

(3:01) PSU fires Paterno, but not McQueary -- who witnessed a boy being raped ... and then ran away like a coward.
(6:40) Harvey reads the shocking grand jury testimony about what McQueary claims to have witnessed.
(10:25) PSU student body president TJ Bard is on the phone. He says if "anyone has aided in the continued abuse of a child" doesn't belong at the school -- but refuses to say McQueary should be fired.
(12:45) Why won't Bard stand up against McQueary?
(15:00) How can the students honor the victims ... if they let McQueary at the game?
(17:10) Shocking -- there's no line of communication between the university and Bard.
(23:50) Another student calls in -- and won't take a hard stand on the issue. So frustrating.
(42:40) Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and former PSU football player -- calls in ... and FINALLY ... someone takes a serious stand against the school.

It's not right, but I guarantee you McQuerry felt as though his future and career were at stake if he took it any further. I have no doubt his future was threatened by higher ups.

Why don't you tell us, Mark, given you seem to be the expert here. What does your comment have to do with raping a child?

Do you think this entire situation would have been handled differently if it had been a 10 year old GIRL in the shower?

This is the problem. Our society has become so politically correct that now kids don't even know how to say "yes this person should be fired and im willing to stand up and say that becasue i believe it in my heart and am willing to stand behind it no matter what other people think of me."

We need to tech our kids to stand up for what you believe in.

Harvey. We do live in America and have a constitution. Joe Paterno was given information by an EYEWITNESS to a crime. Joe then called the man in charge of the sports program and the campus police to tell them of this "hearsay".

He did not witness the said events firsthand.

He did not take part in the said events.

He did report it to his superiors.

He is not an investigator, he is a football coach. As far as I see, he is the only person in this drama (who was dragged in by the supposed eyewitness) who did what he was supposed to do.

TJ sounded more like a politician than anything else. He never actually answered the question!

What McQueary witnessed was so shocking perhaps he froze. Could he have initially thought maybe the young boy was a willing participant? Just wondering...

I've wondered from the start why Mcqueary didn't stop the rape and report it to the police immediately. With all the hubbub about Petrano et al, Mcqueary seemed to have gotten a pass. They should all go.

It reminds me of that little girl that was raped at Primm casino a few years ago

Harvey, society doesn't care about children more than football.

That Student Body President was SUCH a weasel--he couldn't even say he thinks McQueary should be fired? Even as his own opinion? Pathetic. Looks like he's bound for Congress.

What's going on at Penn State is disgusting. How anyone could turn their head to a child in that HORRIBLE situation is appalling. And the student riot just further shows that something is seriously wrong with this institution that they as well fail to act and create a clean sweep of all individuals involved in this coverup. Penn State's actions at large is synonomous of what the guy who witnessed the rape did. They just turned their head as a REVOLTING action is taking place. The only reason McQueery is still there is because he made some type of deal with the Administration to save his job by covering it up. They should ALL be held responsible, fire McQueery, and the board for letting this happen.
