Fans Show Love For Joe Paterno

11/12/2011 7:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Joe Pa support at Penn State
Tailgating is underway outside Beaver Stadium, and the Penn State fans are showing the love for their legendary ex-coach, Joe Paterno

According to an onlooker, several fans are sporting t-shirts, decorating cardboard cutouts (see below) and carrying signs in support of JoePa . So far, we're told the crowd is well-behaved.

As we previously reported, FBI and police responded to a bomb threat made last night -- but nothing was found.

A plane just flew overhead (see below) with a sign that, according to multiple witnesses, reads: "Joe is so dirty he needs a shower."

Trust us, that's what it says.

Joe Paterno will never be remembered as a great foot ball coach. He blew that. He reminds me of the parish priest who witnesses sexual abuse and reports it to the pastor then washes his hands of the whole thing because he reported it to his superior. Never goes back to see what happened to the child, never makes sure the proper authorities are notified. And doesn't because he doesn't want his advancement jeopardized. FOR SHAME

This has been a tragedy. Absolutely. But I would challenge anyone who works in a chain-of-command type situation to play it differently. Would not McQ have lost his job 9 years ago had he immediately called police? Would Paterno have lost his job had he called police? I bet these were questions that they asked themselves. I cannot personally call the police in my job - I would be fired. I have to go through my chain of command. When society comes to a real, true, workable point where anyone can call the police without ramifications, then we will not see a story like this playing out again. Were the police alerted? I bet McQ and Paterno were told that it would all be taken care of. They are not to be held responsible for making sure a conviction happens - that is not their place. I think the chain of command must be followed further up. I think McQ and Paterno, at least, are being used as scapegoats here. They did tell. What more were they supposed to do? And before you just glibly say 'call the police themselves', think about it - they knew that their jobs and dreams were on the line. I challenge each of us to make a better choice than they did. They did, in fact, tell. And what a horrible punishment for the telling they have paid!!!! That is the second part of the tragedy.

If justice prevails, any and all of these pathetic excuses for human beings who were witness to these crimes will become someone's bitch in prison!

You people on here are unbelievable. You act like Paterno lost all his "Morals' overnight when he's done more to help kids. You sound like he was in his office knowing a child was being raped in the next room and enjoying that fact. You all must all have about 4th grade educations. Do you know how ridiculous you sound?

Joe Paterno made a grave mistake and now he is paying the price for it. There are those that are defending his character and love him dearly. We get that. BUT here's the problem: We all make mistakes, BUT the fact he CHOSE NOT TO GO STRAIGHT TO THE AUTHORITIES about what he saw makes this NO MISTAKE. He made a conscious decision to let things be. People are outraged that someone could just "let it go". I guarantee you that if it were his son he would have done all possible to put that POS Sandusky in prison or worse. So why didn't Paterno make the right choice? Answer: He was too interested in himself and his life and his career. We could have much more respect (perhaps not forgiveness)for him if he just came out and spoke the truth right now. He may be under a protective order to keep silent, but he didn't need that to keep silent about these innocent children being molested. STEP UP TO THE PLATE PATERNO AND DO SOMETHING TO SHOW US YOU ARE A MAN OF HONOR, CHARACTER AND DECENCY. Granted, there isn't much you can do right now, the damage has been done. May God give you the wisdom to make the right choice about how to get through this difficult time.

Read the grand jury report. End of story. JoePa did whatever he did legally. Clearly none of you took an ethics class or even go to college if your commenting on a GOSSIP webpage about something thats bigger than stupid gossip. Educate yourself on the situation then comment.

Penn State Proud

You people are all morons. Joe Paterno has done nothing but good for Pennsylvania and Penn State for the past 60 years. But no one will report that he donated millions of dollars to charity. Or that Penn State raises the most money out of any college in the U.S. for kids with cancer. Jerry Sandusky, Mike McQueary, Tim Curley, Gary Shultz, and Graham Spanier are the ones that should be getting all the negative attention, they are the ones that did wrong. Just because we support Joe doesn't mean we support the cover up or that helpless boys were raped! The media has turned this into a circus, and people are stupid enough to fall for it! Joe did exactly what he was supposed to by going to his bosses. What was he going to do? go to the cops and say hey i HEARD that Jerry Sandusky was in the shower with a little boy...nooo Mike McQueary (the WITNESS) should have went to the cops!! Just because Joe is the face of Penn State doesn't mean he is the one in charge!! With that being said..this isn't about Joe or football. It's about Sandusky and what he did to those poor boys. Penn state is deeply sadened by this and we are trying to make it right! I am proud of my school, and I always will be!! Soo haters..stfu!!! Read the indictment before you say ****!! WE WERE, WE ARE, AND WE ALWAYS WILL BE PENN STATE..AND WE LOVE YOU JOE!!!

I prefer to give Paterno the benefit of doubt until we hear more on the case, and hear from him. Everyone is so quick to be judge and jury as if he were the pedophile. The media blurs the lines and as usual the public jumps on the bandwagon without any independent thought. The media loves this - and the only way it would be better for them is if this happened at Notre Dame.

This is going to make the rest of the nation hate Penn State. No one will understand why a child being attacked, sexual assaults, abusively ignored afterwards, and attempts at being covered up for financial reasons were their national past time.
