I guess we used to have the only smart horses out here at the riding stables in the sticks, cause a horse knows a newbie and would take you out the trail and would either stop fast with their head down, skim by a tree, super close, you would very lucky to stay on, or the low limb trick, which is why the stables would trim the limbs way up along the trail so those little turds, would have to rely on slapping you with their tail,hard. Oh yes and nipping,anything they could reach so you'd have little black and blue marks. That's if they smelled the fear!!
