Robert Griffin III

Straight to Ground Zero

After Winning Heisman Trophy

You'd think Baylor king Robert Griffin III would go wild after winning the Heisman Trophy this weekend in NYC -- but TMZ has learned, the star QB went straight to Ground Zero instead ... to pay his respects.

Griffin family sources tell TMZ, RG3 and several close family members made a beeline from the Best Buy Theater to the 9/11 memorial on Saturday. According to sources, the Griffins are a military family -- and Robert felt it was important to visit Ground Zero for some somber reflection.

We're told the Griffins spent a couple of hours at the memorial ... before heading downtown for a quick shopping excursion.

After the emotional tribute and the intimate family bonding time ... RG3 finally took off in his limo to party with fellow Heisman candidates Trent Richardson, Andrew Luck, Montee Ball, and Tyrann Mathieu.

Priorities.

Uh, ok. He would've had to have had passes before he went. The passes are free, but must be acquired before you show up, along with a "tour time". I think it's great that he went, but come on TMZ, you make it sound like he went because he won the Heisman.

It's good to know there are still strong, humble men being raised in this country.

Robert Griffin III has been so exciting to watch on the football field these last few years. We here in Texas are so proud of this young man. He is involved in the Waco community. Graduated in 3 years, will earn his masters in May, wants to go to law school. If he decides to enter the draft, we would hope the Cowboys would want him! Congratulations, RG3! How proud we are of you!

This young man's family should be proud of themselves total class act. I saw him giving his acceptance speech and although I had no clue who he was I thought he was such a great example of what a college athlete should be. Kudos to his parents he's a smart and classy young man!

Why is the staff at TMZ so shocked that this man has his heart in the right place and a solid moral compass? Not to mention gratitude, respect and compassion. You freaks at TMZ oogle and objectify women in a crude manner, that's why you are so taken aback that he didn't party hardy. Maybe he isn't fond of hangovers. The staff of TMZ is proof positive that L.A. is spiritually bankrupt. Go over yourself left coast.

What a great young man and a fine example to our young people who look up to up and coming sports stars. Finally, a player my sons can look up to without me having to explain bad behavior both on and off the field. His parents should be proud! I hope he continues to be a shining light to our athletes!
