'House of Carters' Star

Rx Drugs Suspected in Death

2/1/2012 3:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Leslie Carter and the Carter family
Leslie Carter
was battling an addiction to prescription medication in the days before her death ... and family members believe she died as a result of an overdose.

Sources close to the "House of Carters" reality star tell TMZ ... the 25-year-old sister of Nick Carter had recently moved from Canada to Upstate New York to live with family members while she attempted to kick her addiction.

We're told family members had attempted to rid the home of any prescription medication -- including Xanax --  and were hopeful Leslie was on the road to recovery.

Sources say family members believed Leslie would be OK to stay alone in the home for roughly an hour yesterday while they ran errands ... but when they returned, Leslie was unconscious.

Officials were called to the scene ... but Leslie could not be saved.

We're told Leslie's 1-year-old daughter was not at home with Carter at the time of her death.

That just shows you how strong addiction is. She leaves a 1 year old little girl behind... That so, so sad.
Never put this junk in your body ever. I've never consumed drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. When you don't start, you can't get into trouble!

How stupid are people to think that removing drugs from someone's house will cure them? Addicts always find drugs. Beyond that, you never yank someone off of prescription meds. Being yanked off of even a low dose of a benzo (after a long period of use) is like being tortured. Been there, done that. A higher dosage for a longer amount of time? It can cause seizures and even death. That poor girl. Her poor family. :(

Xanax??? I take xanax about once a day or once every other day. I feel nothing on them and cant imagine it being considered dangerous and some how causing her death.

Family members cannot leave her alone for 1-hour ??

Sad how family members & loved ones are held hostage by other peoples addictions.

If she was addicted to xanax and her family took it all and she tried to stopped cold turkey you can actually die from xanax (benzo) withdrawal. My goodness... so young and beautiful. My condolences and many prayers go out to her family and friends. I'm so sorry for your precious loss :(

"House of Carter's" displayed massive dysfunctions that each of these siblings possessed.

I do actually feel bad for her and the Carter kids. That family seemed to have a lot of drama and constant fighting and a lot of traumatic events during their lives. The dad beat their mom and I remember reading about how their mother stole money from the kids since they were "famous" and had millions of dollars. So very tragic and sad to me. No telling what all they had to go through growing up.
