Whitney Houston -- Family Told

She Died from Rx

NOT Drowning

2/13/2012 6:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Whitney Houston did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs.
Whitney Houston's family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials ... the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol ... this according to family sources.

We're told Coroner's officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney's lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned.

Our sources say the family was told Whitney may well have died before her head became submerged.

And family sources tell us ... it was actually Whitney's aunt, Mary Jones, who discovered Whitney's body in the bathtub. Mary had laid out Whitney's dress for the evening on the bed and then left for about a half hour. When Whitney didn't come out of the bathroom, Mary entered, pulled Whitney out of the tub and began administering CPR.

And we're told ... Whitney's mom has arranged to have the singer's body flown back to Atlanta, as early as tomorrow. The family was told the Coroner has no problem releasing the body because there is no evidence of foul play --  and unless cops put a hold on the body, it can be flown back East.

You can only mix drugs and alcohol so many times before you get that perfect deadly combination which compounds each of the others' effects. When will people, famous people, normal people, learn this? I would like to say certain things about her and anyone else who partakes in this kind of funny business, but I have too much respect for the people in mourning to do that right now.

Note to addicted celebrity's doctors and all doctors out there: Do not give these people "anti-anxiety" drugs!!!! Clearly, anyone who has had a past addiction problem, could possibly take more then you prescribed. Or they could mix it with a drink innocently to "calm" their nerves. Boom. Just like that. They stop breathing. It is now clear this is such a huge problem....especially for aging artist. Elvis, Michael, Judy... geez..and endless list. A 48 year old addict, who probably has hormonal & menopause issues as well, does not need to be prescribed these type of drugs!!! I just can't believe the poor woman is dead at the hands of yet more prescription drugs. How many have to die before it stops? The docs just prescribed my 80 year old mother lorazapam after my father died. Just great, she lives alone, and likes her "before dinner vodka on the rocks still". I told her to throw the drugs away! She could easily die having 1 pill and 1 drink. Just seeing all the celebs dying from such drugs and mixing a fatal ****tail "by accident", just not worth the chance.

....If the duration of the last person to see Whitney alive, and the person who found her deceased is less than two hours---then what we are most likely looking at is an intentional overdose.

Reasons being: If a person is seemingly coherent at 2:00 pm, and is found dead of an overdose at 3:55 pm---it would be virtually impossible for such a person to have accidently ingested such large lethal dosages of RX drugs and alcohol by accident.

The elapse time of the last person to see Whitney alive, and the exact time of the person that found her deceased--- along with the amount and combination of RX drugs and alcohol found in the final toxicology report--- will be the confirmation as to whether the final coroner's determination will read overdose by accident, or overdose by intention---- Suicide....Artofwar

Get ready for the Dislikes...but it's less than 48 hours after the news of Whitney's death...and I'm already tired of the overkill of this. Sadly, the woman was a drug addict, a very talented one, but a drug addict, nonetheless. I am done reading about it.

the artist formerly known as hand turkey

TMZ, is so eager to report something "first" they throw around the bullshirt and see what sticks. And if it isn't true or accurate, they can conveniently blame their mysterious "sources."

Everybody knows she was a junkie. But maybe the medical experts at TMZ should wait for the toxicology report to come back before they issue their official cause of death.

I don't see why everyone idolizes a drug addict. Yes she was a good singer but had not done anything in years due to her addiction. People need to stop putting these people on a a pedalstle!! My condolences but she had major problems and didn't care about her daughter or herself enough to get the help she needed.

I'm also wondering about the 2 loud "booms" that someone heard above her room. That's just weird.

Some of you really have a warped sense of what an amazing person is because Whitney was NOT amazing. Having some hit songs 20 years ago does not make anyone amazing. She was a drama queen, diva drug addict who royally screwed up not only her own life, but the lives of those around her. Just look at what kind of mess she's made of her own kid, she'll be lucky to make it 1/2 way to 48 at this rate. Also, Bobby was not a good person but lets remember he finally got clean and sober AFTER he moved on from Whitney....telling?

Those of you who keep blaming the evil prescriptions, give me a break. She was a drug addict for a long time and would have gladly taken what ever was offered, whether it was crack, Xanax, or cough syrup. Millions of people find relief from prescription drugs every day and don't abuse's not the pill, it's the person.

Don't canonize Whitney, she doesn't deserve it.
