George Clooney
and his father Nick have been arrested in Washington, D.C. during a protest over the Sudan crisis.

Clooney was leading a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in D.C. when he was hauled away by secret service agents.

0316_george_clooney_subassetClooney's publicist Stan Rosenfield tells TMZ, "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Sources connected with George tell us he feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis. Moments before the arrest, George was mobbed by reporters (below) -- claiming, he was protesting to raise awareness about the "Sudanese government committing atrocities on their own people."

We're told a dozen people got arrested including congressmen, leaders of the human rights community, Sudanese citizens, Martin Luther King III and George's father ... Nick Clooney.

Clooney recently shot a short documentary about the situation in Sudan, which he released on EnoughProject.org. WARNING -- Video contains VERY graphic content.

Empty gesture to whore for attention.

if he was arrested in Darfur taking down guerilla terrorists who are maiming kids then that would be different. But like always he's calling for others to actually take the action to do something.

Go George!!! I commend you for your efforts in bringing attention to the genocide happening in Sudan. It shouldn't matter what a person's color, faith or orientation are, the killing of a people is just Wrong! Also, good for you for using your fame for a humanatarian endeavor verses trying to get the best table at the finest restaurant. Thank you for doing what most people don't have the guts to do.

Why do the police routinely cuff everyone? Makes the police look stupid. Those demonstrators would hardly become violent.

Press release, 07/19/2004

"Some 15 women and girls were raped in different huts in the village. The Janjawid broke the limbs of some women and girls to prevent them from escaping. The Janjawid remained in the village for six to seven days."

"Five to six men would rape us, one after the other, for hours during six days, every night. My husband could not forgive me after this, he disowned me."

Why do these people only care about the suffering of people whose skin is black? If they are brown or some other color they could care less.

You don't have to be an expert to raise your voice against genocide. You've got to setting aside your difference, be rational, broadminded, have heart and most importantly growing a pair of you know what.

He acts like he has a God-Complex. Him, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, etc, they all seriously act like their egos have gotten so huge, they now think they are God.

They are not.

You can be passionate about what you believe, but you still have to obey laws and be aware of your delivery, or it will not impact others if you are reckless.

No one likes genocide, no one likes to see innocent lives butchered by abuse of power.

It's always a good thing to get people's attention to important issues. Stop hating, while you sit on your couch eating ice cream and not doing a damn thing yourself.
