U.S. Marines

Props to WWE for

Firing Randy Orton

4/4/2012 5:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Randy Orton
WWE honcho Vince McMahon is a HERO for booting Randy Orton out of the upcoming "Marine" movie ... this according to the guys who served in the military unit abandoned by WWE superstar back in 1999.

TMZ spoke with Cpl. Mike Vinn ... who tells us, "On behalf of all the Marines from Aco 1/4 98-02, that were outraged to hear about Randy Orton portraying a Marine in the next movie "Marine: Homefront", I'd like to thank the WWE for pulling Orton from the role when they heard about his disloyal service to the United States Marine Corps."

Vinn adds, "It shows respect for not only the unit I had served in, but for every person that has ever defended this nation.  Thank you WWE."

TMZ broke the story ... WWE officials made the decision to pull Orton from the flick when they discovered the wrestler had received a bad conduct discharge from the Marines in 1999 after going AWOL on 2 separate occasions.

The f***? Firs of all, as a huge WWE fan, it has been public knowledge for years that Randy was discharged from the Marines. It's on Wikipedia even. I blame the WWE for this. They knew this from the beginning, they never "discovered" anything.

This is coming from 1 individual who may not have been in the same company as Orton, but I was in the same unit. I personally talked to Orton before he got kicked out of the service, I would make small talk with him at the gym since I knew him from our days at the SOI (school of infantry; for those who don't know). It's not that it was a stupid mistake and he wouldn't do it again, he knew exactly what he was doing and was happy about going AWOL and getting kicked out. When I asked him what the deal was and why he did it, he just told me that he didn't want to be there anymore and that his dad had already lined up an opportunity for him to join the Undertakers wrestling camp while he learned the business and improved his fitness. I don't agree with what he did in the least bit, especially since it's not like he was the only one who didn't want to be there at times. The simple fact of the matter is that he signed a contract to defend this country, and when he broke that contract he relinquished all rights he had to ever be seen or acknowledged as a Marine. I realize that alot of people may think that we are arrogant, or egotistical but that's not how it is at all. Regardless of whether or not we were in training or in the middle of war, the simple fact is that he took an oath not only to defend his country but also when you take the oath of becoming a Marine you vow to always have your fellow Marines back. Whether you like that person or not you are brothers-in-arms, so before you start complaining about the guys in his unit why don't you pick up a rifle and see what it's like to have to put your life in someone else's hands and hope that they guard it and take care of you, only to have that individual FAIL for their own weak and selfish reasons. I think the correct decision was made by pulling Orton from the movie, allowing him to play that role would have been disrespectful to all Marines everywhere who take their commitment seriously and served their time.

As already noted, the McMahons knew about Orton's record and took few pains to cover it up. But he made/makes big bucks for them as a charismatic actor, able speaker and talented athlete. Why now? Isn't the Mrs. planning on spending another $100,000,000 or so running as a conservative Republican candidate for the Senate again.

Sure the WWE knew about his past, but again none of you really know what happened that the fine boys of the USMC have witnessed.Did Orton ever tell anyone how he mouthed off to the commanding officer? Did he ever tell anyone how he used to use his dad's wrestling career as some sort of leverage in the Corps? Did he ever tell anyone about his little black book? I think not so therefore Mr. Vinn and the other Marines who served with Randy are justified in their actions and statements

I love, and I appreciate all peoples, from all walks for life that decide to go into the military, be it the army, the air force, the Navy, the Marines. ANY OF YOU. I love you, I appreciate you, but if you think you can come on a site like this and DEMAND respect, DEMAND that I recognize that you are sacrificing more than everyone else, really, In the IMMORTAL WORDS of Kevin Costner in the GReatest movie ever, "FIELD OF DREAMS" After he's done all he's asked, travelled all over he says "WHAT"S IN IT FOR ME!" Shoeless Joe looks at him and says "Ray, is that what you think this is about, what's in it for YOU?".

Randy Orton went AWOL in 1999, so we get comments from Cpl. Mike Vinn, a guy who was probably in elementary school in 1999!!! Just because Vinn is in the same unit that Orton was previously in, does NOT make his P.O.V. important at all. Hey Mike Vinn, build a tiny bridge and get over yourself, mmmkay.

i will try and be as respectful as i can b u t it is going to be hard seeings as there are alot of really ignorant people.... Former Corperal Vinn was in the sam unit as randy not is now in the unit randy was in they served at the same time and knew eachother. and for any "south side gangsters"or any other person that refers to themself as a gangster... Your stupid shut up this conversation is for grown folks. Randy says h regrts what he did but when he was asked by myself and other Marines that he "seved" with he was happy he was leaving and knew full well what he was doing. he also knew his dad had hooked him up with a ride straight into the wwe. We (the Marines of his unit that kept our word to honor our contract) have every right to be upset by this cause he digraced the title of Marine and all that we stand for. we dont have a problem with cina or ted jr. playing Marines cause they have not personally dishonered us like randy has. and yes we from his old unit of Alpha Company are speaking out about it cause we are the only ones aside from randy that actually know what went down. i can tell you that i am peronally happy for his success in doing what he does. i knew him and at one point called him a friend. however this is something that cannot be excused simply cause it happend a long time ago. he can go in to be another Rock and make millions and hundreds of hollywood blockbusters so long as he does not do it climing to be a Marine. he lost that privlege
