Rick Fox

The Real World Was Too

Much For Junior Seau

5/5/2012 8:57 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

050512_fox_launch_v2
Junior Seau
fell victim to a problem encountered by many former pro athletes -- post-career depression -- this according to former pro athlete-turned-actor Rick Fox.

Fox tells TMZ, retiring from a professional sport leads to a massive shift in lifestyle -- from glorified hero to relative anonymity -- and for some players, the change is too tough to handle.

Fox tells us, "At the end of the day [Junior] shot himself in the chest, which is the heart, and a lot of people die of a broken heart when they leave the game."

Fox adds, "The real world is a rough place, man ... Depression is real."

The SD DA declined to file charges against Junior when he drove his car over a cliff two years ago, after he was released from his DV arrest. And SD media continues to paint him in only the best of terms. They do not talk about his darker side. It's true he did many good things. And was always promoting helping kids. It's also true he had issues. Which are not likely to be reported south of LA.

YEA, BRUTHA... DEPRESSION ONLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU SQUANDER THE MILLIONS YOU MADE ON XXX CHICS, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND STUPID A$$ INVESTMENTS. OTHERWISE ANYONE WITH PROPER FINANCIAL MGT WOULD HAVE A NICE PORTFOLIO WHEN THEY RETIRE AND DO A REGULAR 9-5 JOB LIKE RICK FOX'S "ACTING". LIKE... YOU DONT HEAR MICHAEL JORDAN, DAN MARINO, HOWIE LONG, ET AL SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION. JUST SAYIN... #TRUTH!!

JR SEAU OWNED A RESTAURANT IN SD. HOW WAS IT DOING FINANCIALLY? MAYBE IT WAS BOTTOMING OUT AND GOING BANKRUPT. ALONG WITH HIS DIVORCE, 3 KIDS, AND MILLIONS GONE THAT WOULD DO IT AND HE COMMITTED SUICIDE. PEOPLE HAVE KILLED THEMSELVES FOR LESS, JUST SAYIN... #TRUTH!!

Are you kidding me? These guys sign multi-million dollar contracts and get treated like Gods. And you want to tell me the real world is tough? Only because they believed their press releases. We need to stop paying these people millions of dollars and convincing them they are Gods. Same goes for the Hollywood types. And we need to stop teaching our kids that athletes and Hollywood types are hero's. They aren't.

I have a lot of what Junior Seau had on a much smaller scale obviously. However, my GFs are beautiful, I don't have day-to-day money worries and I do mostly whatever I want. I have also thought of killing myself many times. I think to some extent your happiness level is genetic but also the monotony of life just weighs on you. And how many vacations, women, cars, jobs, etc. will you have before it just becomes similar and familiar. Props to JSeau for his beautiful GF though. A beautiful redhead beats all comers!

Junior Seau was a great football player. If you pay close attention at what we know. You will notice people that are control freaks, will tend to spiral out of control when they don't have full control and on top of that, he was a over achiever. Not having the fantasy of football anymore and dealing with reality was to much for him and he took the ultimate control with his life. SO Sad...

Hey Rick Fox, I know what else is depressing. When your spouse cheats blatantly with multiple women and then has the nerve to go on TMZ and pretend to be Mr. Compassionate. Thanks for the earth ****tering news flash. The Psychological World appreciates your infinite observation.
