"Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan just released the following statement regarding the massacre in Colorado:

"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of 'The Dark Knight Rises', I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community.

I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime.

The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.

Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

How much violence, senseless cruelty and insane, murderous behavior has been depicted in the Batman Franchise and Mr. Nolan's in particular?  I would suggest that Mr. Nolan is a sadistic savage on a mass scale.

As tragedies like this happen, too often it seems to be merely "fill in the blank" generic prepared responses. Mr. Nolan has conveyed a genuine sense of compassion in his statement. As talented of a director he is, it is in these words that illustrate a strong passion at his core. Very Classy!

Totally not trying to be a jerk about it, but when I read what his response was to the killings, to me it sounded more like this was an attack on movies than the actual victims. Sorry, but it did give me "what a self centered, "showbiz" a hole" feeling. I am so sorry for the victims and their family and friends. What a tragedy.

This has absolutely nothing to do with a movie and everything to do with an untreated mental patient.

I live in Denver and can't believe after Columbine that we would ever deal with something as horrific as that again. I was wrong.

Condelences to all those effected/affected. It's another sad day in Colorado history.

I just wonder where the NRA members were to finally make some good use of their guns... They will never show up, will they?

And you, Christopher Nolan are a bombastic, pompous ASS pompous azz who is more concerned with your art form and profits than the loss of life. You may want to find another home, your current home hasn't taught you a thing about what is important and meaningful.
P.S. Your movie sucks a

Bad title TMZ, "savage" is also slang for someone who was fearless and is used generally in good conversations,it's someone expressing admiration of that persons actions.

Again-Horrible title

I think there is one thing that is not being said of this tragedy, is the violence we have been feeding our children, from movies and xbox, and music over the past 20 years. I think this guy was lost in fantasy, caught up in some game, and wanted the reality of it. So Warner Brothers can say "This is tragic", yet they on one level created this.

Are you serious TMZ??? How many times are you going to put this sick monster's name in a headline? You're giving him the fame he sought. There's a way of telling the story without putting this f#@$'s name in every headline. Show some responsibility!!!

If anyone reading this agrees that the media should keep this monster's image and name minimized, please sign the petition:

TMZ is considered 'gutter' by many, yet the last 12 mths or so has seen your outlet pull out quite a few good scoops on relevant stories. That makes TMZ a valid agency. Or it would, if you didn't create totally misleading headlines such as this one as tawdry teasers. It's quite clear that Christopher Nolan described the actions of the Aurora gunman as 'savage', not the gunman himself. In fact, Holmes' name is not mentioned in the statement you printed. There's a difference here and you know that. You should be satisfied with the fact that you are scooping without having to resort to such distortion.
