NBA
forward Matt Barnes was arrested tonight for an outstanding traffic warrant, and for allegedly mouthing off -- BIGTIME -- to the arresting officer, TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources, Barnes was busted by police in Manhattan Beach, CA for a misdemeanor traffic warrant, and we're told he also resisted the arresting officer.

Barnes is currently being booked by Manhattan Beach PD for the traffic violation, and for resisting an executive officer ... a felony.

According to our sources ... Matt was walking in Manhattan Beach around 8:30PM when he was first approached by Manhattan Beach PD -- and when officers ran a check on him they discovered a massive $26,000 unpaid traffic warrant for driving on a suspended license.

We're told Barnes made threats against one of the officers -- which is why he got slapped with the felony for resisting.

Barnes played for the Los Angeles Lakers last year, but is currently a free agent. He's being held on $51,000 bail -- 26 for the unpaid warrant, and 25 for the felony.

Barnes posted bail and was released at 11:20PM.

He later tweeted about the incident ... writing, "Oh.. For all you perfect people out there looking at me w/your nose in the air, who have "NEVER" missed a court date for a "TRAFFIC VIOLATION" God Bless You..."

He also wrote, "Funny how a small situation turns into a "Urban Legend".. A $26,000 traffic ticket?? Come on now smh.. Have a good night"

Big friggen deal... so what, driving under suspended license. Who was that other celebrity the the California Celebrity Courts said that they'd would WIPE HIS RECORD CLEAN despite the fact he PLEAD GUILTY! This situation was just a big misunderstanding, the cops didn't know they were dealing with a celebrity. Even though I think I have more in the bank than that basketball player---and that's saying nothing---but he'll tap one of his girlfriends and find the money, the court will drop one charge and reduce the other, maybe "anger management" [bulsh1t] classes and an apology from one the clowns they call judges for the inconvenience.
Truth be told, Brotha Man knew he was busted--while stupid--he thought he could intimidate the cops they'd back away [must have worked before, or was that the playground?], testosterone was oozing out of every orifice and those cops wanted to Rodney King him and now the idiot is in jail and that Californian jurisdiction is tasked with making it all disappear. They have enough practice, Baca will hook him up in jail and the LA courts have pleanty of creative tricks around the law if they need any help.

That's why more and more cameras are in place in police cars taking video of inside and outside, as well as new tasers having video cameras on them, To me, every cop should have an active video feed on them. Not only would that prove or disprove what actually happened, it might even stop some people from acting like fools when confronting officers.

In my life I've seen first-hand a lot of people lie about what happened in a confrontation with a police officer, and I've also seen police officers lie and make up resisting charges against people apparently because they didn't like something that person SAID to them. Active video would serve and protect... which is the point of law enforcement to begin with.

Manhattan Beach officers are known for being PRICKS. Matt should know better to be hanging in a town that is known for weekend partying with drugs for the locals.

So why did they stop him in the first place, to ask for his papers? And fyi....the trial of Sheriff Joe isn't going so well for him. He's cost AZ taxpayers millions in lawsuits. But then, those racist bums deserve it.
