Tommy Lee

Legal Threats Over

Roller Coaster Drum Stunt

8/16/2012 5:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Tommy Lee
STOLE the idea behind his awesome upside-down rollercoaster drum solo thing -- so says an engineer from L.A., who claims he pitched the idea for the concert stunt back in 1991 ... and Lee ripped him off.

The engineer -- a guy named Scott King -- fired off a legal letter to Motley Crue's lawyers recently, claiming Lee turned down his pitch 20 years ago ... then jacked the drum-coaster idea for Motley Crue's 2011 tour.

King claims he never got a cent from the band -- and now, he's out for payback. If push comes to shove, King says he'll sue.

But Lee's attorneys aren't budging -- firing off their own letter in response, insisting King never pitched SQUAT to Lee ... and even if he did, King's rollercoaster model (which tracked all over the stage) is nothing like the stationary "drum ring" used by Lee at his concerts.

So far, no lawsuit has been filed.

The guy had the idea in 1991? Interesting because I went to the Girls, Girls, Girls tour in 1988 with Guns and Roses as the opening band with my sister in Lakeland Florida and Tommy was in his drumming circle thing and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. During the concert it didn't move but when it was time for his solo it moved to the center of the stage and away he went. So Scott King try again. Google it if need be, there are pictures of it

Hate to break it to the engineer, but many bands have done this and other very similar things with drum kits for years and years.

P.S. - Tommy Lee had nothing to do with that poor little kid drowning, the kid's nanny left early and asked another nanny to watch the kid, she was out walking her dog when the kid drowned.
It's very sad, but Tommy had no idea any of it was going on, he was busy giving his own son an awesome birthday party...that unfortunately has a very bad memory attached to it.
......."Tommy Lee cleared in boy's drowning death".......
......"Daniel was accompanied by his nanny Christian Weihs, who left the party early to attend a concert and asked another babysitter, Judith Zeihm, to look after the boy. Zeihm was out walking her dog when Daniel drowned."....
.....""It was very, very obvious Tommy Lee was not responsible for the death of that child," said jury foreman Howard Pollack, 62, after the verdict was read.".....

Tommy I am a huge fan but taking others ideas just because you can (big legal team and all) and not giving credit where it is do is not cool. Life must be great as a rock star but don't forget about us working stiffs!

Scott King is a down-to-earth person who would not lie about his artistic creativity. If Tommy Lee has stolen an idea that was originally Scott Kings', he should compensate Scott accordingly. Life is too short and people need to be fair with eachother.
