Tyrann Mathieu

'Honey Badger'

Checks Into Rehab

breaking news

0817_tyrann_mathieuTyrann Mathieu -- the ex-LSU football star who was kicked off the team last week for violating the school's substance abuse policy -- has checked himself into rehab.

Mathieu's father, Tyrone, told WVUE-TV in New Orleans that the Honey Badger has been at the Right Step recovery center in Houston since Monday.

Mathieu -- a 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist -- is being mentored daily by former NBA star John Lucas, whose career was derailed by drugs in the 1980s. Lucas has gone on to help dozens of athletes battle addiction.

Mathieu's father said that Tyrann will focus on his health before deciding on his football future.

please. this kid does not need rehab because he smoked a little fake pot. it is just all part of the game. the ONLY reason he is going to rehab is because the school or some court is making him. now go jump thru those hoops 'honey badger'!

He's young, and will get it together... Just steers clear from those clowns in the National Felon League like Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens and the other alcoholics, woman beaters, tax evaders, and sperm donors.

Should've done it a year ago.. O - if only he had not been caught he'd still be making those dirty plays. No sympathy from me. Like gas, he will pass.

Oh boy, move him right to the NFL so he can be paid millions and become broke and broken in less than 10 years like 90% of the African American "AFFLETES" who if not given free rides for their athletic ability couldnt even get a janitor's job at 90% of the US universities they're let into and paid for full ride I"ve always said every person given a scholarship should have to pay it back if they should ever become wealthy enough to do so. FAT CHANCE of that because the people getting them are THESE folks who despite earning millions don't pay their bills, their car notes, their home notes, on and on and on. TMZ has a different one every single day and this one hasn't even got out of 'college' yet!!!

To the idiot that thinks pot or "fake pot" can't be addictive to some people- this young man threw away multi-millions in future income because he couldn't go without the way the drug made him feel. Now- I would say he is addicted to something if he chose a blunt over millions. Pot can be mentally addictive even if science says it's not physically addictive. Ask any pothead who has to smoke every day just to get by.

First off, no school "asked" him to go. He had 20 different division 2a schools begging him to play for them. He had an incredibly rough childhood in New Orleans... His mother was addicted to crack cocaine and abandoned him at a young age. He was adopted but was still a troubled child. Maybe the rehab isn't just for fake pot and or alcohol but additional emotional issues. Its really no one else's business!!

somebody is doing a good job of managing this kid and he seems to be listening. the whole thing seems fishy, but he needs to do whatever he has to, to avoid flushing untold millions of dollars in future earnings down the crapper.

In other words he will be back playing football for LSU in 30 days. Come on this isnt to hard to figure out. LSU wants him back and Im sure there is a lot going on at LSU that the public does not know.
