Nicolas Cage

Settles DVD Debt

9/1/2012 2:34 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0901_nicolas_cage_gettyNic Cage is a delinquent DVD renter no more -- he has settled his tab with a Los Angeles video store, TMZ has learned.

As TMZ first reported, Cage owed Old Bank DVD $224.48 in fees for two movies he never returned -- "A Star is Born" and "The King of Comedy."

The store took to Facebook in an effort to get Cage's attention and it worked (well, our story probably helped a lot too). The owner of the store tells TMZ Cage called this morning to apologize, blaming the snafu on his assistant.

The owner says Cage was cool and didn't take any offense to the store calling him out on Facebook. The store didn't make Cage fork over the full amount -- just $20 in late fees per movie, and another $20 each to keep it ... for a total of $80.

The store posted an update on its Facebook page, saying, "As a token of our appreciation for all the fine work Mr. Cage has done in film, with any rental this weekend, our customers may also pick one Nicolas Cage movie for free - and that's like half our store, I mean seriously, that's one hard working actor ;-). Welcome back anytime Nic."

Remember, when in doubt, blame the assistant. Or your accountant. Or your publicist. Or the IRS.

Blame anyone-everyone but yourself

Why didn't this goofy store have a credit card on file anyway? Hell, when I worked at a video store back in the late 90's they'd require one on file just in case people didn't return their movies. Join the 90's crappy videostore and require a credit card.

Who the f*** even goes to video stores anymore? Join the 2000's and sign up for Netflix.

Well at least we give him the benefit of the doubt
SH-it happens I guess.
Hopefully we give other races of people the same benefit
Seems like we are changing as people and being tolerant looking at people as equals so thats a positive thing for sure..

What a bunch of idiots at the video store, welcoming him back to their store after trashing him on facebook and inflating the late feels to a ridiculous amount. Now days the most they can charge is the value of the movie if not returned. Shows that Nicolas Cage has more class than they do.

That was a win for everyone. Nice touch for the free bonus Cage film rental. In an industry (physically renting videos) that is starting to disappear, it might help their weekend rentals. Good marketing.

Those fees are outrageous! Nobody in their right mind should rent from this place. Especially since it doesn't value its customers' privacy and handle its accounts in a more professional way.

THANK GOD! I was worrying about this all day, hoping there would be a resolution to this very serious issue. Now I can go on with my day, having a free mind!

I think its funny they do this and then the DOMAIN NAME FOR THEIR WEBSITE HAS EXPIRED from GoDaddy! Guess they were waiting on Nic Cage to pay their OWN debts!

I love Nic Cage. He is my favorite actor of all time. He has done some stinkers, but his best work, like in Lord of War, Matchstick Men, Bad Lieutenant, The Rock, its just amazing. He is amazing.
