Michael Jackson

'This Is It' Promoters

Called Jackson a 'Mess'

9/2/2012 3:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0717_michael_jackson_article_gettyMichael Jackson was "an emotionally paralyzed mess" who was "scared to death" leading up to his planned "This Is It" concerts in 2009, this according to newly obtained emails sent by the promoters of the show.

In the emails, obtained by the LA Times, AEG's Randy Phillips traded messages back and forth with AEG President Tim Leiweke. In one email leading up to the 2009 press conference to announce the concerts, Phillips wrote, "MJ is locked in his room drunk and despondent ... I (am) trying to sober him up."

Phillips said Jackson was "an emotionally paralyzed mess," that Jackson was "scared to death," and that Phillips and Jackson's manager had to dress him. The press conference ended up being very brief and very strange.

The emails were part of the discovery in an ongoing lawsuit between AEG and the insurance company that backed the tour ... which is suing to get the $17.5 million policy nullified.

Of course he was despondent have you seen the list of painkillers and other meds he was on? & getting IV Demerol which is very very very strong most doctors won't give it in liquid form except for people on their last leg on their death bed. I don't think he was drunk he was so high he was litterly out of his mind and i can see why he'd be scared he was outta his mind because of those meds....I'm on Fentynal & Roxicoden for Cancer and it scaresm me because of how many people even the "Untouchables" are being touched by the iron grip and most time you need a jaw of life to escape it. But with MJ he was able to get what he wanted everybody was a yes man to him because like the saying goes....Money talks,BS walks. So it makes you wonder if MJ was like you or I would he still be alive?....I'm sad that he's gone but he laid down with the dogs and got bit.... R.I.P MJ

OH PLEASE..the only ones who DON'T know freakshow Jackson was mess, are his brain dead followers. Jackson was a thief, a deadbeat and a prescription drug addict who surrounded himself with suck up "yes" men. It was clear that he was spiraling out of control physically, emotionally and mentally. Talented? yes no doubt but his immoral actions and creepy life negated any talent he had. Strange how his dying is what it took to get out of the debt and bills he owed in life. IF in fact that report is true.

Promoter emails say Michael Jackson was out of shape, consumed with doubt

Michael Jackson in 1995
By Associated Press

Promoters of Michael Jackson's planned 2009 comeback described in emails how they feared for the megastar's stability, saying he was out of shape and consumed with self-doubt.

The Los Angeles Times obtained some 250 pages of messages, most between executives at Anschutz Entertainment Group, which was financing the ill-fated "This Is It" concerts set for London. Some of the emails indicated that executives were concerned that Jackson's planned 50-show stand at AEG's 02 Arena would be an expensive bust.

In one exchange AEG's Randy Phillips wrote his boss that Jackson was "an emotionally paralyzed mess." Phillips was writing from Jackson's London hotel suite just hours before a press conference announcing the concert run.

"MJ is locked in his room drunk and despondent," Phillips said in an email to AEG President Tim Leiweke. "I (am) trying to sober him up."

In the end, the emails show, Phillips and Jackson's manager had to dress the pop star, the Times said.

"He is scared to death," Phillips wrote to Leiweke.

Jackson arrived 90 minutes late for the press conference and made brief remarks that some of the 350 reporters described as odd and disjointed.

In an interview with the newspaper, AEG's attorney Marvin Putnam suggested Phillips had exaggerated in his emails and said Jackson's behavior appeared to be a case of "nerves."

The Times said the messages will probably play a key role in two lawsuits set for trial next year. The shows' insurers are asking a judge to nullify a $17.5-million policy that they say AEG got with false claims about Jackson's health and readiness to perform. And Jackson's heirs filed a wrongful-death suit that accuses the entertainment giant of pressuring the singer to carry on with a comeback despite indications he was too weak.

Lawyers for AEG, which has denied any wrongdoing, told the Times most of the correspondence was produced as discovery in ongoing litigation. They said the messages reviewed by the newspaper were incomplete and leaked to portray the company in a negative light. The lawyers declined to provide additional emails that they said would give a fuller picture, citing a protective order imposed by a judge in the civil litigation.

Numerous emails show Lloyd's of London unsuccessfully pushing for access to five years of Jackson's medical records in order to expand insurance coverage for the concerts.

The insurer also wanted the singer to undergo a four-hour medical exam that would include three doctors, heart monitoring and blood work. AEG's insurance broker tried to persuade Lloyd's to drop the physical, according to the email discussions. AEG suggested that Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, could give an oral recitation of Jackson's recent medical history instead, the Times reported. Lloyd's refused.

A Lloyd's underwriter wrote that repeated requests for written records and details about Jackson's daily fitness program were met "always with no response."

Murray responded to the last of the requests June 25 at Jackson's Southern California home, according to emails presented at the doctor's criminal trial. He wrote that he had talked to Jackson and "Authorization was denied."

Jackson died less than an hour later, according to a timeline Murray gave investigators.

The one thing that is scary is,Latoya sounded crazy when she said the promoters conspired to murder her brother, that they hired Murray to keep him incapacitated because when they realized they bit off more than they could chew, a disabled insured Michael was more valuable to them.---Everyone knew MJ was a perfectionist having a good cry -or whatever else-or just hiding out in a bathroom is not impossible to believe. 50 years old,50 shows too much for a stable person.

The truly sad part about this story doesn't concern details of Michael's last days and whether or not he 'functioned' properly or not...the sad part is that he is not coming back, and a truly gifted, talented and celebrated human being is no longer in our midst. https://www.facebook.com/WarOnDrugsMemorial

Shame on AEG for leaking private in-house communica about such a high profile client. Make that a double for doing it to someone who died tragically young and left children who are now old enough to read this gratuitous trash. It's been 3 years and these lecherous morons still can't let his memory be? They're gonna get their payday and since MJ is gone, they'll be paid in full for only the entire tour when they provided a service just the length of rehearsals, the free money isn't enough, they have to drag his name through the mud in the process? I hope the judge considers their behavior when rendering his decision about a settlement amount.Let's get some dirt on them during the worst days of their lives and see how they like it being splashed all over the tabs.

The next time you write about a topic as well known as addiction, here's a thought...ask an addict! If your story was about nuclear fusion, I don't imagine you'd just wing it, you'd consult a Physicist right? So I'm here as a consultant with 20 yrs sobriety, I've spilled more drugs on my shirt than LIlo has ever ingested and I can say with the utmost certainty, she isn't suffering from a boob job, she's got almost every symptom of addiction we have a name for. You perpetuate these wild stories that give addicts a scapegoat and they forgo treating it. "I'm not an addict, I had implants"...oh, now I see..huh?

Michael and I were the same age. The J5 got me thru a very difficult point in my life. Whatever happened, it was none of my business. I got a chance to meet him and the kids once and all I could think of was that this was the baddest mo fo to ever live. It was truly an honor. I miss him more and more everyday.

I think AEG is running scared and will say and produce any thing they can to try to get off of any charges. they know millions of us fans are hating on them right now. They could lose a ton of money if all of MJ fans turn on them.

that concert would have been as much of a disaster as whitney houston's final years of trying to do shows. she was an out of breath mess whose lungs and voice had been destroyed by crack.
mj was on a bunch of stuff and he was every bit as out of it as whitney was.

He was a mess for years. When he had that demented looking plastic surgery we all knew, but nobody dared to tell the truth. He was a very sad, lonely man who had to pay someone to put a smile on his face...
