Dennis Quaid

Sued Over Near-Fatal

Horse Accident

9/19/2012 12:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0918_dennis-quaid_tmz
A horseback rider claims he was nearly killed while riding a horse on Dennis Quaid's equestrian estate, and he's suing the actor over his life-threatening injuries.

70-year-old Lester Wood claims Quaid gave him permission to use a trail on the actor's property to ride a horse to a nearby park in the exclusive Pacific Palisades area of L.A.

Wood said in an interview with the Palisadian-Post newspaper, the sprinkler system next to Quaid's trail suddenly activated, spooking the horse which reared up and fell on top of him.

Next thing Wood knew he was in critical condition at a nearby hospital with a concussion, fractured scapula, torn aorta, multiple pulmonary emboli, broken ribs, a nicked liver, a tear in his bladder, fractured lumbar discs, a shattered pelvis, internal bleeding, and a torn miniscus in his knee.

Wood says he was not wearing a helmet and was looking down at his watch at the time of the accident.

0918_lester_horse_2All told, Wood says the accident cost nearly $500,000 in medical bills -- and he blames Quaid -- who no longer owns the estate -- for what he believes is a flawed trail design.

We contacted Quaid's rep for a reaction to the lawsuit.  So far, no response.

You're sueing because of a flawed trail design? Ya, you got a lawyer. Dennis's homeowners will cover it.

I'm sorry but when I ride my horse I know I have to be alert. Anything can happen out there and they are living creatures that react....and often react to how you the rider reacts to something. the reality is the sprinkler probably did startle the horse but he the rider probably jumped with his own reaction and the horse reacted to that. He shouldn't get a penny...if a deer jumped out of the brush would Quaid be responsible for that too?
TMZ actually had pictures of Quaid's estate on their site about a month ago..very nice place and it indicated private trail connecting it to a public rding trail.

Lester Wood! Remember that name. This is a low life s*** sucking parasite!! Hmm? He asks for friendly permission to use a horse trail, horse trail-a key point, gets permission,t, doesn't pay attention- another key point, and lackadaisically screws himself up- a real key point, and then the puke says "its your fault"- no point to this kind of stupidity!

Remember Lester Wood: He wants your wallet because he will always be your fault!

Hey let's call it, "income redistribution"

At 70 years old you should not be trail riding and horses spook - that's a danger when you're on a trail or in an indoor ring but at least in an indoor ring you have people close by to help if you fall off. This is a ridiculous suit with no merit. He should have been wearing head protection and he shouldn't have been out there alone.

JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT A CRAP MEDICAL SYSTEM EXISTS IN THE STATES. IF AMERICA HAD A SIMILAR SYSTEM TO UK, FRANCE, OR CANADA I HIGHLY DOUBT THE DUDE WOULD BE SUING. MOST OR ALL OF HIS EXPENSES WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. #TRUTH!!

How is this Quaids fault?? I am so sick of people blaming others for their own damn stupidity!!!! Unless Quaid was watching this dude ride & waited for just the right time to manually pop up those sprinklers, its not his fault. This is the type of thing that can happen when you ride horses, plain & simple!!

The guy is riding an animal he obviously didn't have control over and yet he is suing Dennis Quaid? Can you say opportunist? Every time you get on a horse you know you are running a risk. If your horse gets spooked easily, then you don't take it out of its familiar surroundings.

Dennis learned a lesson, always get a waiver signed and make riders wear a helmet. Even "nice" people and "friends". At his age Mr. Wood she either have more horse knowledge or not be riding. He should not be so ignorant about horse behavior at his age.

So, Quaid was nice enough to let this guy ride his horse on his property and due to not fault of Quaid's, the guy fell and is now suing? Seriously? Only in American can you sue someone who had nothing to do with your own stupidity. Being nice... gets you nowhere... but in court, apparently.
