A fight broke out backstage at the BET Hip Hop Awards tonight between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy that resulted in shots being fired .. sources at the awards tell TMZ.

According to our sources, Ross and Jeezy exchanged words backstage and started pushing and shoving each other. We're told BET security and bodyguards for each of the rappers eventually separated the two.

Our sources on the scene say that after the fight had been broken up, a member of Rick Ross' entourage pulled out a gun while in the parking lot and shots were fired.

We're told Jeezy and Ross are still at the awards, which are being taped tonight in Atlanta and air next month.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department tells TMZ, "Shortly after 7:15 pm Saturday, a fight broke out in the parking lot at the Atlanta Civic Center (where the BET Awards were being taped) between two groups. Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue." Our sources maintain shots were fired.

We're also told that 50 Cent got into it with a rapper named Gunplay, a protégé of Rick Ross.

Can't we all just get along?

A rep for BET tells TMZ, "BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Rap has crossed all racial lines, that happened when Vanilla Ice became a huge artist. The music isn't Black culture, it's ghetto hardcore gangsta rap, which is different from decent mainstream rap. Like the kind that people who never get into trouble rap about. Remember Will Smith or LL Cool and many more. They never get into trouble and are quietly making millions and you don't mind your children looking up to them. Many of the songs that these gangsta rappers rap about is so vulgar that anyone under the age of 17 should not be listening to them anyway. Their music can't be played on the radio. That gangsta attitude sells records.

Anyone out there who wonder why there still exists white racism against blacks just needs to see how these "artists" behave.

These people cannot even be civil at a ceremony to celebrate themselves!! And they wonder why rap and their proud hood mentality gives so much juice for the racists who don't even bother to lie - the racists have enough ammuno from the blacks themselves. Stupid.

Really 'cause I'm white and these incidents don't encourage me to feel any racism against blacks...go figure.
Factually most of these rap and club incidents have *not* included people dying.
On the other hand we've had several white people go ballistic and shoot and kill large numbers of people.
It's ridiculous to think that black people are anymore violent than us white people can be, or any other race of people can be.
Facts show otherwise.
But...I do find it interesting that on the weekends at TMZ, there does seem to be a number of articles posted that show a tone of anti-male, and anti-black slant.
Perhaps weekends at TMZ include a skeleton crew of white feminist women :D

You can take the rat outa the hood but you can't take the hood outa the hoodrat. Too bad they're both still alive, this could have been entertaining.
