Jon Bon Jovi
's daughter will not face criminal prosecution after allegedly overdosing on heroin in a college dorm yesterday -- because the D.A. has dropped all charges.

A rep for the Oneida County District Attorney's Office says it is dismissing all criminal charges against Jon's 19-year-old daughter Stephanie Bongiovi as well as the 21-year-old male student allegedly involved with Stephanie's overdose.

TMZ broke the story ... Stephanie was arrested after being treated by emergency medical personnel following the alleged overdose at a Hamilton College dormitory. Cops claim a drug task force found small quantities of heroin in the dorm room ... along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Stephanie was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and criminally using drug paraphernalia. The 21-year-old was also charged with drug possession.

The D.A. says the charges were dropped because of a New York law that specifically prohibits prosecution of people experiencing a drug overdose -- as well as the people who help them seek medical care.

Daddy, the D.A. said he would drop all charges if you play a set at his kid's bar mitzvah!

it must be easier to prosecute people who have no money and public defenders rather than people who are able to hire Rock Star Attorney's who usually make the D.A. look really bad.

That law makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Charges were dropped most likely because Jon will donate a lot of money to the school and have a part of it named after him. My question is will she be kicked out of this school? She should be since she was found in possession of drugs and ingesting them. I love Jon Bon Jovi. He seems like a really cool guy and a great dad, but... if it were me or one of my children you know they would have been charged and kicked out of school. I'm just a poor white woman so guess as long as your broke your toast.

Good law. A lot of people wouldn't go to the hospital if they risked arrest. Since she didn't harm anyone but herself it would be ridiculous to charge her anyway.

If it's a law in New York state, then why did the cops show up at all, and why did they conduct a search?

OK, drugs are legal if you OD. And Daddy's a rich white somebody. Black? 'nother story.

Addicts skate. Drug dealers win. Better drug test DA. Might be a Las Vegas District Attorney relative.

All is as it should be; peole should not be afraid to seek medical treatment in cases of overdose. Being fearful of prosecution has killed people in the past. I agree with the intent and implementation of the law here.

first off, I dont care if theyre white, black or purple with pink spots, this is not a race issue. This IS about money. You or I would have faced charges, this spoilt "kid" has had charges dropped and will go on holiday or rehab to avoid the being expelled from school status.. It makes a mockery of the law when ordinary people would have been prosecuted. Dad has clearly pulled strings all his life for his pampered princess and THATS why she is a user, because she can. No consequences, never facing up to problems.
