Justin Bieber

Photog Killed

After Chasing Bieber's Ferrari

1/2/2013 8:10 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

7:30AM PST:
Justin released a statement, saying ... "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."

8:40PM PST
Justin Bieber was not in the Ferrari ... sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ.  We're told one of Justin's friends was driving and another friend was in the passenger seat.

A paparazzo attempting to shoot photos of Justin Bieber's Ferrari was hit by another car and killed this evening -- although Bieber was NOT behind the wheel of the Ferrari ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Bieber's white Ferrari was pulled over by California Highway Patrol for speeding on the 405 ... near the Getty Center in LA.   The CHP directed the driver to pull off the freeway, onto Sepulveda Blvd.

According to our sources, Bieber was DEFINITELY not driving at the time.

We're told a paparazzo -- who was following the Ferrari at the time of the pull over -- attempted to snap pics while officers conducted the traffic stop.

The photog then crossed Sepulveda to snap pics and was told twice by the CHP to go back to his car on the other side of the road.  When the photog tried crossing back, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle as he crossed back and was killed.

Our sources say drugs and alcohol were not a factor for the driver of the vehicle that hit the photog.

LAPD is now on scene investigating the incident.

Geez, I feel sorry for the person that hit him.

The press is the problem but why do celebrities try to outrun them? You're putting yourself and innocent bystanders at risk. Is having them not take your picture worth possibly causing a death?

Americans are so freaking stupid. You wait until someone gets killled before you put protectionary legislations in place. Dumb fux.

Misleading headline and typos in story. Sad for the photos death. He was just trying to make a living. Hope JB does something substantial for his family.

If it wasn't JB driving, why did the person let the photog know? Also, there isn't a celebrity alive worth dying for....and that works both ways as Princess Di's family well know. Work together.

I'm assuming the photog pulled the car over, and was taking pics in the middle of the street when the car hit him. If that's the case, he's an unfortunate idiot. Hope it was worth it man.

Say It Isn't So

It's pretty sad, the only thing to knock KimKuunt and LiHo down the storyboard was someone having to die. What's this world coming to?

sad that anyone gets killed but these paps are all arrogant little peasants that ignore the laws & common sense chasing there so called big pic.ive had them step right out in front of my moving car on Robertson by the Ivy many times!theres a group of them that are foreigners that really need a proper beat down and a one way ticket back home! hopefully it was one of those douchebags that was struck! and TMZ you are part of the blame for this because you pay them for the pictures!!

Why is everyone putting blame on the way paparazzi's operate. Couldn't this just be a case where a pedestrian got struck by a vehicle. It happens more than you think. Maybe he was walking away from the scene and got hit. Stop focusing on Beiber/photog. It just realize this was just a person getting hit by a car

Truly unfortunate occurrence, but I'm not surprised in the least. Maybe new laws will be placed to insure others safety in regards to the celebrity photographers now, but it is ashamed it took a life to bring everyone's attention to this imminent tragedy. My thoughts and condolences go out to the photographer's loved ones, but I am relieved an innocent non fame chaser wasn't killed or seriously injured over a stupid ducking picture.
