Justin Bieber

Photog Killed

After Chasing Bieber's Ferrari

1/2/2013 8:10 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

7:30AM PST:
Justin released a statement, saying ... "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."

8:40PM PST
Justin Bieber was not in the Ferrari ... sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ.  We're told one of Justin's friends was driving and another friend was in the passenger seat.

A paparazzo attempting to shoot photos of Justin Bieber's Ferrari was hit by another car and killed this evening -- although Bieber was NOT behind the wheel of the Ferrari ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Bieber's white Ferrari was pulled over by California Highway Patrol for speeding on the 405 ... near the Getty Center in LA.   The CHP directed the driver to pull off the freeway, onto Sepulveda Blvd.

According to our sources, Bieber was DEFINITELY not driving at the time.

We're told a paparazzo -- who was following the Ferrari at the time of the pull over -- attempted to snap pics while officers conducted the traffic stop.

The photog then crossed Sepulveda to snap pics and was told twice by the CHP to go back to his car on the other side of the road.  When the photog tried crossing back, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle as he crossed back and was killed.

Our sources say drugs and alcohol were not a factor for the driver of the vehicle that hit the photog.

LAPD is now on scene investigating the incident.

While I have nothing but sympothy for the photog's family, maybe this will be a hard lesson learned for others

Unfortunately, I think this was inevitable, given the extremes these paparazzi go to. But he didn't deserve to die, and my sympathy to his family.

While it is unfortunate when anyone dies, paparazzi standing in the freeway to snap pictures of a celebrity ranks pretty low on my "care" list.

Too bad it wasn't Bieber who got hit. That would of been a great way to start the new year!

I also agree with TNasty. This is not a time to applaude the death of someone from the paparitzzi. That was someones son, brother, husband, father and friend who lost their life doing a questionable job. Hopefully this tragic incident will be a wake up call to this industry and those they employ will consider the possible dangers this job entails and decide to find employment elsewhere.

Throwback kid

Imagine giving your life up because you were trying to take a picture of this no talent, self entitle,. uneducated little brat? Why don't they just deport Bieber back to Canada already, his 15 minutes are up. Bieber played this same game over the summer with that metallic exotic car, then baby Justin was mad because he said the LAPD weren't nice to him, poor baby. I guess anyone who doesn't ask this moron for his autograph insults baby Bieber. I'm just soory a guy died chasing this worthless fool

Truth hurts

Hard to feel sorry for the photog. Him along with many in that line of work constantly put The lives of celebrities, civilians, and anyone around them in danger. Take this as a lesson to all those photogs out their. We don't need to see Celebirtys coming out of the bathroom, we just want to see them perform our favorite songs or in our favorite shows

I recently was fortunate enough to see a video floating around out there on the web of an Asian driver hitting an Asian man...and yes, I definitely needed to mention that they were Asian and this took place in Japan, or someplace weird like that. Anyway, a box truck hit a fella that stepped off the curb at the wrong time travelling at about 45-50mph. Ever seen what happens when someone gets hit at that speed? There's nothing simple about it. There's not much of anything left. The body is what percentage water? How fast was the car going that hit the photog? About time that people, photogs in particular, respect the road and those driving on it.
