Washington D.C. Mayor

'Redskins' Is RACIST

... It's Time for a Change

It's damn time the Washington Redskins changed its racist name ... at least if the team ever plans to move inside D.C. city limits -- so says District mayor Vincent Gray.

Now that the Redskins are winning again, there's been a lot of talk about bringing the team back to D.C. -- instead of leaving them in nearby FedEx Field, located in Maryland.

But Mayor Gray has some conditions before the Redskins move a muscle -- claiming, “I think that if they get serious with the team coming back to Washington, there’s no doubt there’s going to have to be a discussion about [changing the team name]."

Gray added, “I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would love to be able to sit down with the team … and see if a change should be made. There’s a precedent for this, and I think there needs to be a dispassionate discussion about this, and do the right thing.”

FYI -- the federal government controls the land where a new Redskins stadium would be built in D.C. ... so it does have some say.

There's no question, the term "redskins" is flat-out racist ... but we still gotta ask ...

i think its racist and insensitive. When you look back on the history of the U.S and its relations with the Native Americans, its equals genocide, if you sit in a college class on Native American Studies today it is being categorized as a genocide, so its more like if Germany had a team called the Judens or something Iraq having a team based on the Kurds. The only reason why we haven't changed it is due to there not being enough Native American people/ regular people who care to take action against the masses of football fan ignoramus'. America cannot condemn other countries for racism and then be secretly racist itself, that's hypocrisy.

Since Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D. C the residential and working areas of our national politicians and military leaders, the new name "Skins" would be appropriate for the present football team. " Skinning" is a national past time here

Current Owner assumed to be Lake Erie Native American Council (LENAC)

The 'People Not Mascots' Logo is meant to be a Native American protest caricature of the Cleveland Indians Baseball team. It was originally painted by David Jakupca, it has drawn criticism from some sportswriters, fans and local businessmen, but gained immediate acceptance among humanitarian, religious groups and Native Americans. It gained international popular attention when it was it exhibited by ICEA at the 1993 UN World Conference on Human Rights held in Vienna, Austria and has become one of the most recognized anti-racists logo's in existence. It also caused repercussions for the groups connected with the logo and this has been do***ented in the INTERNECINE MATRIX

Why not call the Redskin team the "Black Skins" that would be more appropriate don't you think, go ahead and just see how that goes over. Or maybe call them Muslim Skins. If they were called the "Yellowskins" or Jewskins the name wouldn't last a day.

This is just another example of the unfair and unjust treatment of the Native Americans in the United States. The reason America resist recognizing any concerns or complaints from the Native American people is that they feel guilty and they do not like it, and they do not want anyone to know.

The Native Americans are people with feelings and they have children with feelings and they are hurt by rude remarks, comments and gestures just like anyone else and they don't like being called Savages, Red Skins, Squaws...

America feels ashamed that's why they condemn, ridicule and silence the Native Americans so that the world does not find out how horrible they treated the Native Americans and how they killed the Native American people for fun and sport, and how they stole their land, water and mineral rights. How they were unchecked and they raped and tortured Native American women and children for decades. How they genocide the Native American nations from New York to California relentlessly.

American movie producers villainized Native Americans in Hollywood movies and stereotyped them in negative ways to make the public be prejudice against the Native American people. They coined the phrase "The Only Good Indian is a Dead Indian" out of the mouth of their Hollywood sweetheart John Wayne.

The prejudice was to the point where as if the Native Americans did complain about anything, it fell on unjust deaf ears. All because it kept an evil man's conscious calm while he destroyed a nation of people and that he could with a clear mind continue to kill, exploit and steal from Native Americans and then go to church on Sunday and forgive himself.

There are less than 1 million Native Americans alive today and when the Europeans arrived in America there were said to be a population of 40 million Native Americans living in North America at that time.

The Native Americans are the most hated race in America they experience the most prejudice because the government and Hollywood has taught America to hate them.

The U.S. government stole Native American land out right and in later years when the government did make legal real estate transactions the government simply did not pay the Native Americans across the country for their land and cheated them out of their land, water and mineral rights. The government still owes tribes today for these lands. These real estate transactions are still legal in a court of law but since the government is the law of the land they refuse to pay up. The government took the Native Americans from their land illegally and placed them on uninhabitable reservations (concentration camps) where they were not allowed to leave and were guarded by military posts.

In the Northwest of America, right up until 1961 the government of America sterilized the Native American female infants at birth, so that they wouldn't multiply. When Native American women realized what was happening they refused to go to the hospitals where theses operations were being performed on their new born infants, and many of the women needlessly died in child birth.

So, you can see why America who monetarily benefited from the genocide of the Native Americans, would feel ashamed. Then again some don't. The U.S. government's mistake was they didn't kill all the Native Americans they left some alive and times have changed. The Native American tribes and nations have slowly been reconstructing their cultures and some nations never lost their languages. The Native Americans have been residing in America for 15,000 - 17,000 years and very well may be here long after the Europeans are gone.

The U.S. government has declared if a Native American tribe is less than 300 people that they are not Native American anymore even if they are 100% Native American blood and can prove it, you can not erase a race of people. The reason the government did that is too lessen the numbers of voices of the Native Americans. Mr. Government you can not erase a race of people!

What I've said here is just a drop in the bucket of the atrocities committed against the Native American people it's not even the tip of the iceberg.

One Note: The Native American people and the Mexicans do not share the same DNA. They are a separate and different race of people from each other

This is the Redskins owner Dan Snyder's "Stan in the Schoolhouse Door" moment. There's no difference from him and when Gov. George Wallace stood in the door of the University of Alabama not allowing Black students to integrate into society. The governor literally stood in the doorway as federal authorities tried to allow the students to enter. Snyder is standing in the doorway of letting the Native Americans have their dignity and hindering them from integration into society.

The word "Redskin" literally means the equivalent to the N-word to the Native Americans when it's used by Caucasians and no they don't call each other that. To be called a Redskin is a hurtful insult to Native Americans.

"Absent from Dan Snyder's mendacious letter about the history of the R*dskins name: team founder & segregationist George Preston Marshall."

It's been suggested that founder of the Redskins "George Preston Marshall, was an avowed segregationist. That suggests the team's name was deliberately designed to denigrate people of color."
