'High School Musical' Star

My Divorcing Parents

Stole THOUSANDS from Me

1/27/2013 6:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0125_chris_warren_jrAs if his famous mom's divorce wasn't bad enough -- "High School Musical" star Chris Warren has now filed a lawsuit against BOTH his parents, accusing the pair of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of his child acting money.

Warren filed the lawsuit against "Passions" actress Brook Kerr and Christopher Warren Sr., claiming they established a trust for him back in 2001 for all the money he made as a minor -- and have been secretly dipping into the kitty ... big time.

According to the lawsuit, Chris paid into the account for years, but when he decided to make a withdrawal back in 2011 -- as a 21-year-old -- his parents refused to grant him access.

When pressed, Chris claims his parents admitted they had blown through hundreds of thousands of dollars of his money on their own personal expenses ... but refused to say how much was left in the account.

Chris is now suing his parents for all the money back ... even though he's still not sure exactly how much they took.

Reminder: Chris' parents are currently embroiled in a nasty divorce.

Neither parent has responded to Chris' lawsuit.

All minor actors have what is called a Coogan account. It's basically a locked trust that contains 15% of the minors earnings and can only be accessed by the minor when they turn 18. The rest of their earnings are usually managed by the parent and is quickly eaten up by agent fees, manager fees, training, travel, security, taxes and other special necessities (drivers, hotels, coaching, etc.,) that most people have no clue of when they read a story like this. he got his money at 18 and 100% of his salary was in his control at that time. The devil is in the details...I hate it when these stories make all showbiz parents look like money-grubbing-pigs. Not one single child star got where they're at without a parent sacrificing EVERYTHING to get them there.
It does seem sad when business ties destroy a parent/child relationship.

They need to increase the amount that is saved, bc some parents stop working, & just use the money that was earned by their child.

There may be other people to pay, but not to the point that a these kids are getting ripped off !!

Wow how did they manage to dip into the account??? My daughter worked in the entertainment business for years in hollywood as a child actor and we as parents have to set up a locked coogan account, which protects the child actor money and parents have no access to it other then making deposts only. I'm sure the parents never truly set up that specific account and the sudio didn't make sure to double check on that. This could have been avoided. To this day my daughter's coogan account is locked until she reaches 18 in a 2 years. I know that guy will win and hope the judge puts liens on them to collect all the funds back. Shame on those parents!!!!!
