Carrie Fisher

After Bipolar Episode on Caribbean Cruise Ship

2/26/2013 10:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Carrie Fisher
was hospitalized following a bizarre performance on board a Caribbean cruise ship last week -- and her rep tells TMZ, it was all caused by the actress' bipolar disorder.

Video footage surfaced of the performance -- which took place last week on board the Holland America Eurodam in the Caribbean -- showing Carrie slurring a couple off-key songs. Her dog even POOPS AND PEES on the stage while she's singing. It's pretty nuts.

There were reports Carrie -- who was featured on the cruise as a "surprise" celebrity guest -- was wasted at the time of the show ... but her rep says the on-stage breakdown was caused by Fisher's bipolar disorder.

The rep says, "There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder.  She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now."

Carrie -- a recovering drug addict -- has publicly discussed her bipolar disorder in the past. The rep says it's unclear if Carrie will return to perform on the cruise ship again.

What's the problem? She's goofing around in front of a small audience on a cruise ship. Who cares?

Throwback kid

They should call Harrison Ford and have him pay her a visit dressed as Han Solo, this will bring Carrie back to 1977 in a world where she was happy and safe, I am afraid she may think she really is Princess Leia though and if she thinks her home planet of Aldreraan was blown up this could cause her to go nuts and then she would need shock treatment

The New Improved Sock Puppet

I think she was more ripped than symptomatic.

The guy sitting on the armrest is Brad from the Worlds Dumbest tv series on TRU channel. Have no idea who the dude with the aluminum pan is.

Hey Brad- love the show but haven't seen a new episode for quite a while. Hope you're still making them because your one of the funniest on it (Mike Trainor is hilarious, Judy is awful.)

I was on the Eurodam cruise 2/16/2013-2/23/2013, and it was small enough that we would've known if Carrie Fisher was on board, and if she was supposed to have performed; we still have the cruise daily guides. The 2/16-2/23 cruise was the first of the "Dances with the Stars at Sea" shows, Mark Ballas, Lacey Schwimmer and Joey Fatone of N'Sync was there (he sang 'The Longest Time' at the piano bar), but there was no Carrie Fisher. The performer with the dog was magician Jeff Peterson (featuring "Indy" the Magic Dog - a maltese). TMZ, please confirm your sources before randomly choosing a cruise line and/or ship.

Don't we all over do it and make asses of ourselves every once in awhile? I think ooos, I got to wasted sounds like a better excuse.

Personally I didn't think she slurred her words at all and seemed to be in great spirits. I do hope she's feeling better with her medication adjustment. I also was diagnosed with Bipolar no episode is ever fun to deal with even when it's little.

It was a live show. And it wasn't perfect. End of story.

Bi Polar is just an excuse for having damaged brain cells from being a "druggy".

What happened to exhaustion? Why is bipolar more marketable than drunk?

No mention in the article, but this took place on the Eurodam chartered by RSVP Vacations, and was an all gay/lesbian cruise. The video was taken on 2/15. the last night of the cruise.

First of all, having being diagonsed with bipolar disorder over 18 years ago I can attest that this is NOT a bipolar episode. As someone previously mentioned, it is an insult for people who suffer from this disease to be used as a label when some celebrity falls off the wagon.
