Carly Rae Jepsen

Cancels Boy Scouts Concert

They're Too Homophobic for Me

breaking news

0305_carly_rae_jepsen_boy_scouts_article_gettyCarly Rae Jepsen has officially pulled out of a HUGE concert for the Boy Scouts of America ...  claiming she wants no part of an organization that doesn't support gay rights.

The "Call Me Maybe" singer had been booked to perform at the National Scout Jamboree in Mount Hope, West Virginia in July, along with the band Train.

But moments ago, Jepsen tweeted that she's yanked herself from the festival ... squarely because of the group's ban on openly gay scouts and scout leaders.

"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer," Jepsen said.

She continued, "I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level ... and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

FYI -- Train has also backed out of the show ... but says they will be happy to re-join the show IF the Boy Scouts reverse their anti-gay policy.

They're still waiting ...

It doesn't matter what her stance on gay rights is, she did the wrong thing here. She shouldn't have took the job in the first place. So either she's too stupid to realize that the Boy Scouts have always been anti-gay or she knew she would cancel all along and exploited a bunch of kids to make a point.

Nice to see someone standing up for their beliefs. Too many times we overlook things for the kids. If we do that then how will the kids know what is right and wrong. Good going Carley Rae, I am sure the Girl Scouts, who do not discriminate would appreciate your support.

It seems the homophobes (or perhaps just homophobe supporters) seem to be out in force here. If you had your facts as straight as your supposed lifestyles you would know that Derek Nance created a petition at change.org that helped steer the decision to not support the ridiculously outdated morals of the Boy Scouts. More people made there voices heard for the boycott than are whining childishly here in an attempt to promote their homophobic views..

Kudos to Carly Rae Jepsen! And, likewise, kudos to anyone who decided to boycott or leave the BSA because of its exclusionary policies (not only disallowing participation by gays but also agnostics and atheists) and seek out alternative scouting programs, such as the Baden-Powell Service Association, which offers a Traditional Scouting program for EVERYONE! http://bpsa-us.org

It's disgusting. They are to blame for the fact that they are not fully accepted. I do not go out on the street dressed in underwear to prove anything. And no, I am not homophobic. I have absolutely nothing against them, but instead against events like this.

Its about time someone stand up to those Homophobic Boy Scouts. Good for you Carly! You are so beautiful and sweet and I'm sure the LGBT community are glad to have someone like you on their side who is a good role model for our youth. The world would be a much better place if all celebs used their talent as a platform for effecting change in the world. Keep it real girl

I'm just so suprised how in this day and age an organization like the Boys Scouts of America are 'allowed' to openly express their homophobic views and discriminatory 'ethics'. I would like to think that gone are the days were vulnerable groups of people are openly abused and discriminated against due to ignorance and intolerance. Well done Carly!! Human Rights is not a question of Acceptance but Tolerance
