Sir Paul McCartney

Save Our Soccer Team!

5/12/2013 5:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0509-paul-mccartney-everton-tmzSir Paul McCartney, don your shining armor for the home team ... fans of Liverpool-based soccer franchise Everton are BEGGING the Beatle to rescue their beloved club from looming disaster.

Paul -- a BIG Everton supporter -- is being lobbied to buy the 135-year-old Premier League franchise.   Fans have started a petition drive which is picking up steam -- 4,500 names so far.

Paul has the dough -- he's reportedly worth around $800 million. The team is going for $200 mil, which would clearly make a big dent in his wallet.

You can sign the petition here ... which means you're not really an American, because we don't care about soccer.

A Lingerie Football League franchise would be soooo much more fun.

He is almost as old as the team...why invest when you're about to croak. And --as we HOPEFULLY learned here in America -- nothing is too big to fail. If the sports team is failing it is because it sucks and HAS no fans. The 4500 are probably homeless old coots or wimps that just need a place to go to get away from the porkers they married.

TMZ - in case you didnt know there are several countries outside of the States, and in these countries there are some people who go to TMZ for idle gossip.

Oh also Football (not Soccer) is played all over the world, unlike American Football.

Nobody in their right mind will buy everton. it was reported last time if I remember correctly some arab investors were interested but the demands of the owner is crazy among them is he continues to be chairman even if he sold the club if I am not mistaken. Either way let the club die with the chairman now that the manager is going to Manchester United. Moyes kept the club a float with almost zero transfer money year in and out. With him gone my prediction they will relegate!

The writer of this article is an idiot. Major League Soccer averages 18,000 fans per game, good for the 3rd most popular professional sport in America and 7th highest attended soccer league world wide. There are 13 million people playing soccer in the US leaving it only behind baseball/softball and basketball on a participation leve. The 2010 World Cup Final drew 24 million America views.

Only reason America doesn't care about soccer is because 3rd world countries every where used to beat the **** out of them. And we can't have none or that. Unless we dominate, we don't really care.

Everton was only kept afloat by Moyes, who will be leaving soon to go to Manchester United. The club needs an investor but most of all a good manager to stay up, as Moyes did wonders for the club with no money at all. I dont think Mccartney has enough patience to deal with a football club though.
