WWE Superstar

... I'm Gay

8/15/2013 11:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

081413_darren_young_launch_wmWWE superstar Darren Young just dropped a bombshell, telling TMZ, he's gay ... and no, this isn't part of the act.

Darren was at LAX Wednesday when we asked whether a gay wrestler could succeed in WWE, and Darren laughed, saying, "Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."

For the record, Darren is now the first openly gay wrestler ever at WWE ... and the first headlining wrestler ever to come out while still signed to a major promotion.

Other pro wrestlers have been rumored to be gay, but that's it ... just rumors.

Bottom line: this is big, big news. For all its chauvinism and testosterone-driven bravado, coming out in WWE is tantamount to coming out in the NFL.

Of course, wrestling is a little different, particularly because of how physical it is, and how little clothing is involved -- but Darren is completely unfazed. Watch the video to hear why.

Current WWE Champ John Cena is already weighing in on Darren coming out. Check out his reaction here.

Young is also receiving full support from the WWE ... which says it's "proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality."

A rep for the organization adds, "We will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar.  Today, in fact, Darren will be participating in one of our Be A Star anti-bullying rallies in Los Angeles to teach children how to create positive environments for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation."

Good for him. In today's complex world of problems sexual orientation should NOT be an issue. MANNERS is what we ALL should be called out for. Who cares who you sleep with. We should care if you are rude.

NOT ELMO

WWE SuperStar Darren Young Just Dropped a BombShell, Telling TMZ, He's Gay...............LIKE i always say if YOU are a REGULAR PERSON Meaning NOT FAMOUS and YOU are GAY / LESBIAN is Perfectly Fine For YOU To Let THE WORLD Know About it Because YOU have NO FANS So YOU have NOTHING To Lose BUT If YOU are FAMOUS and YOU are GAY / LESBIAN YOU Should just Tell THE WORLD YOU are BISEXUAL, WHY ??? Because YOU do NOT want to LOSE FANS and Anyways being BISEXUAL gives YOU ALL THE FREEDOM That a GAY / LESBIAN Person has BUT it is MORE Acceptable Than Being GAY / LESBIAN...

Why do gay people feel they need to announce to the world they f**k men? I don't go around to the world and feel its necessary to tell everyone I f**k women. Seems to me the only people I see with the whole im gay hang up are gay people. your running around labeling your self. Personally I don't care if your gay. its a big whoopee doo and a good for you. I honestly don't care where you put your private or what you put in them.
Someday I hope gay people wake up and realize we just really don't care if your gay or not and announcing it is your hang up not yours and personally im kind of sick of you guys trying to make some big flipping deal out of it.
Get over it. The shock value has been dead for years.

Chris Kanyon (Christopher Klucsarits) was openly gay and worked in both WCW and WWE. He was open to the workers and later to everyone. WWE made a mockery out of him. Orlando Jordan was openly bisexual and he too was mocked and then fired when he came out. But maybe Vince & Co. have progressed a little since those times.

WWE is HUGE in the anti-bullying campaign. I doubt there will be any negative comments from any of his co-workers or they would risk being fired or fined themselves. Good for him for coming out and making a statement.

I'm all for this. The less enlightened members of society (and there are millions of them) need to know that gay men and women are also professional athletes. The more people are aware that gays exist in all walks of life the better. Athletes shouln'tk have to live in fear that their "secret" might be found out and they could lose their livelihood. There are many more reasons coming out is a positive move, but this is hardly the best forum. Suffice it to say and to quote Queen Martha, "It's a good thing."
