Wentworth Miller

I Tried to Kill Myself

9/9/2013 4:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

090813_wentworth_miller_main_launchWentworth Miller tried to commit suicide multiple times because he couldn't handle keeping his sexual identity a secret.

Miller revealed his dark secret at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle Saturday night, saying his first suicide attempt was when he was 15.

The "Prison Break" star says he downed a bottle of pills at home, and he wasn't crying out for help, because "you only cry for help if there is help to cry for."

Wentworth also talked about the torture of working in Hollywood as a closeted actor ... explaining he wanted to be the role model he never had ... "to be the someone else, that no one was to me."

In my opinion, not having listened to these videos yet, I think his problem was being gay and feeling like there was now way out of it. If Chris Christie would allow psychologists and counselors to still offer conversion therapy, maybe kids wouldn't have to feel so hopeless.

I think he just needed reassurance that he could be normal and didn't have to feel that way.

Anyone who says that they tried to commit suicide multiple times is either a liar or a complete failure.

That is so sad to hear. Good for him that he had the courage to come out.

Com'on TMZ weekend writers. At least get his quote right. All you have to do is write what he that so hard?? He didn't say, "to be THE someone else, that no one was to me." He said, "to be TO someone else, that no one was to me." I mean, how can you even be "THE someone else"? That doesn't even make sense.

It's Me!

Attention seeker! How do you TRY to commit suicide several times? If he really wanted to kill himself there are some pretty fool-proofed methods to succeed. Im not trying to be insensitive, just truthful. Also, why did he feel it was necessary to tell ANYONE his sexual preference? I don't go around announcing that I'm heterosexual-- because no one cares!

this is the most stupid thing i have ever read, and obviously this guy has mental problems, people who try and commit suicide need mental help.

To bad he didn't succeed with it.
The world would have one less gayfish...

"the torture of working in Hollywood as a closeted actor...". ??? Who actually believes this crap?

Coming out of the closet MADE Ellen's career. Prior to that, she was a failed stand-up comic with several short-lived sitcoms, one of which had just been cancelled. She came out and VOILA!!!!, Hollywood rewarded her by making her richer than her sliver of talent would ever dictate.

Jason Collins was an on-court FAILURE with one of the lowest scoring records in the NBA. He came out, and VOILA!!!, suddenly he was inundated with television appearance requests, more popular and better known than during his entire sports career. He will make money from a book deal, movie deal, etc, successful SOLELY because he came out.

Frank Ocean, a mediocre singer, has a career SOLELY because he came out.

Magic Johnsom's "son" is being wooed for a reality show career SOLELY because he came out.

Barack Obama gets down on his knees and practically CRAWLS across country to kiss the ass of every single entertainer who comes out.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is too cowardly to actually come out, but he nevertheless has said how "PROUD" he is when someone calls him gay. His down-low gayness (which is no secret to anyone in Jersey) was a huge factor in Obama's support of him.

So please explain where the "torture" is for Miller or anyone else who comes out of the closet. Those being tortured and FIRED are those who dare to refuse to bow down to the Gay Mafia's attempt at enforced groupthink.

Well said. Well done. I always believed the truth is easier than all the lies (which is sometimes easier said than done).
You should have told me the truth, from the start.
:) Please call.
