Zac Efron

2 Rehab Stints This Year

Zac Efron
has done rehab for cocaine addiction not once this year, but twice, after a major relapse ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Zac has been doing cocaine for more than 2 years -- he was also into Molly.  He tried to clean himself up in March by getting professional help.  We're told he left California and stayed in a private residence where he received intensive outpatient care for several weeks.

In April he returned to L.A. and began shooting Seth Rogen's film "Neighbors."  During the shoot Zac relapsed in a big way.  TMZ broke the story ... Zac was not showing up on the set and it was common knowledge he was using again.

Our sources say after the film wrapped up he got a second dose of outpatient care.

As for how Zac plunged into the depths of coke, we're told there are 4 reasons:

-- Zac has significant issues with his parents, who are still trying to control his life and decision-making.

-- Zac is upset about his movie career, which was once white hot but after "High School Musical" he hasn't had real success.

-- Zac has "girl issues" ...  although we're told it has nothing to do with his break-up with Vanessa Hudgens.  That, our sources say, is ancient history for both.

-- Zac had been hanging around with "a bad group of friends" who introduced him to the world of cocaine.  We're told Zac has 86'd most of them from his life in the last few months.

The celebrity world is full of bottom feeders who ingratiate themselves with the famous, ply them with drugs or whatever else they want, mooch off of them, ruin their lives and careers, and flee like rats off of a sinking ship when the celebs inevitably crash and burn.

It's not unusual for addicts to relapse but it's not a good sign to relapse that quickly. For cocaine no less.

Hello2013

In 2013 where celebrities can't even take a crap and wipe their butts without TMZ knowing about it you really expect us to believe that Zac Efron had a bad cocaine problem for over two years? If his problem was so bad to the point that (1) he made $50,000 worth of damages to a hotel room, (2) was so high out of his mind some days that he couldn't even show up to film neighbors, and (3) went to rehab twice in one year then why are we only hearing about it now? When was the last time a celebrity was able to do one of those things and the story didn't break almost immediately, let alone all three of those things? And some how Zac Efron managed to do the impossible and keep his cocaine addiction hidden from the media for over two years without a single rumor spreading? TMZ i know you're smarter than that! I can't believe that you didn't even find something fishy about this story. Come on now, the entire cast and crew on the set of neighbors knew about his coke problem and not one person leaked that story to the media? Am I suppose to believe that there wasn't even one thirsty groupie fame whore on set who wouldn't love to make a few bucks selling that story to the media? Zac may be good at keeping his private life private but he isn't that good. And now you report that Zac started using cocaine because of girl problems, parent issues, and career troubles. Zac can get any girl he wants, all he has to do is wink and the panties drop! Zac is rich, famous, and grown if he doesn't get along with his parents all he has to do is ignore their phone calls; parents issues are no longer an issue. Zac has done 9 movies in the last two years, that doesn't sound like someone who has a failing movie career; and besides he still gets recognized everywhere he goes. TMZ GET IT TOGETHER AND POSTING LIES ABOUT ZAC EFRON!

Everyone needs to leave this young man alone. His steps towards sobriety are his steps not the publics. My grandmother was involved in AA and Al-non for over 50 years and I used to listen to her counseling addicts on the phone all hours of the day and night. She never turned down a call because she had someone pick up the phone after she had her worst bender. She used to say a junkie is a junkie no matter where they came from, live or what their bank account statement says -- you have to hit bottom -- loathe the daily pain --pick yourself up and try again the next day. Never give into the disease. She spoke to people from all walks of life and never judged no matter how bad the story. I am rooting for his sobriety. It is a self-loving process to seek help, accept that your powerless and work the steps of change because change is difficult. TMZ and the music industry need to quit calling ecstasy Molly and call it for what it is methamphetamine. It is not a recreational party drug and glamorizing it is setting up even more young adults for dangerous addiction.

It infuriates me that you guys are so ignorant. As "journalists"(which i assumed would require some type of reading ability, maybe doing research, or the ability to edit or correct your work) Saying that those are the reasons that Zac Efron does cocaine is absolutely uneducated and also detrimental to people who need help. Normal humans who are not addicts do not do things like use cocaine to deal with life. I've learned this in recovery. People who are not- by medical standards- addicts, have the ability to drink alcohol or use drugs and quit when they want. When i put those substances in my body- i can't stop because of a physical craving followed by an obsession of the mind (call it a mental illness if you must). I have recovered from this, but when you blame it on girls or bad movies other of this other dumb **** you say caused it, you are wrong. It is an illness, that is not an opinion, look it up. I do not say that to make myself feel better, i have been sick and i have seen the sick. Once an addicts into drugs, he does stuff like what Mr. Efron is doing, which is watch your life unravel, probably hating every second of it, but not knowing how to stop. This guys life could become the epitomy of stardom, success, and he'd use again. Or down in the dumps, where using would just screw things up more- he'll keep going. Look at PSH. There is no reason for this insanity that is picking up again after 25 years sober or 2 rehabs in one year. And when you guys blame it on everything else on earth, you take away from the fact that its a sickness-and people don't get help. Or are scared. Get educated on addiction and what it is- A ****ING MURDEROUS disease. From the AMA. Quit pushing this actor into a darker place. Thats what you are doing. Its so frustrating to me to read this.
