Tommy Hilfiger

Ends the Denim Debate

NEVER WASH YOUR JEANS

10/14/2013 10:53 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Fashion legend Tommy Hilfiger has just single-handedly ended the debate that has plagued America since the beginning of time -- how many times should you really wash your jeans? -- and his answer might kick up a stink.

Hilfiger was out in L.A. last night when we asked if it's okay not to wash your jeans all the time ... and Tommy says he NEVER washes his. Ever.

You should watch the video to hear Tommy's justification -- it kinda makes sense -- but part of us is also a little grossed out.

So we gotta ask ...

Yeah, well I didn't care about his opinion before he gave it, so this changes nothing. It's completely disgusting and definitely not hygienic to never wash your pants. Oh wait, let me guess. He doesn't wash them because another Chinese 3 year old on staff to sew him new ones each day?

He wants you to dry clean your jeans. Which is stupid when you actually wear jeans or denim for work. But if you are a multi-millionaire and don't do labour intensive work for a living I guess dry cleaning makes sense.

Too funny! He made a subtle and funny dig at Levi's Jeans. He said he never washes his Levi's because they will fall apart. LOL.

He wasn't trying to imply that Levi's are cheap and will fall apart. He was serious. With raw denim, the denim nerds (yes they exist) don't wash them for months or even years at a time. This allows the raw denim to create natural "fades" that are personalized to the wearer, instead of the fake distressing that designers put on jeans. When they do finally wash them, they soak them in a tub and hang dry them. Good raw/selvedge denim doesn't need to be washed often, but it's a good idea to spray them with some Febreeze every now and then.

It's not that unusual for particularly douchy wealthy people to wear clothing until it stinks, then throw it out and replace the piece. Even some people who are only moderately comfortable financially will just replace underwear and socks rather than clean them.

Oh sure. They are called "originals" and all your homies on HOGS get to pee on em and initiate you into the bikers club. You also rub grease and oil all over them to protect the stench.

Tommy, you get rashes?

You don't wash expensive jeans the keep the fabric dye from fading and to create custom wrinkles and fit. Look up selvedge jeans. at most you hand wash them every few months .
