Kobe Bryant

Gets $24 Million Dollars Today

breaking news

1101-kobe-bryant-lakers-gettyKobe Bryant's having a pretty good Friday -- 'cause he just got a check for $24.4 MILLION dollars, courtesy of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Mamba had pre-negotiated his deal with the team to get roughly 80% of his $30.5 million salary for this season up front in one giant balloon payment -- and today is payday.

Total payment -- $24,363,044.

As for the remaining $6 mil, that'll be paid out by the end of the season (unclear if it'll be broken up into weekly payments).

FYI -- most NBA players don't arrange their contracts to pay out this way. But he's Kobe ... and whatever Kobe wants, Kobe gets.

I wish I could get paid that much money to not work. I know the economics that go into these players salary but sometimes it does make me a little ill knowing they get millions and millions per year for what they do and teachers get paid crappy salaries. Oh and our service men's pay scale isn't great either.

He probably will get a third of that after taxes, commissions, and other costs. That being said, the Buss family thinks he is worth parting with all that money, so all the more power to him and them.

Another poster ignoring the benefits that teachers and servicemen get aside from their salaries (which are not typically crap). That argument is old, overused, and inaccurate to say the least.
