Jameis Winston

Signs Cops Covered Up Sexual Assault Allegations

11/14/2013 12:10 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

There's evidence Tallahassee cops tried to sweep the sexual assault investigation targeting Florida State University QB Jameis Winston under the rug to protect the team and its star player ... and ONLY took aggressive steps after TMZ Sports started asking questions.

Sources in the State Attorney's Office tell us they never even knew about the investigation until Tuesday ... JUST ONE DAY AFTER TMZ Sports began making calls to cops about the alleged assault.

Our sources in the State Attorney's Office say ... it was highly unusual cops wouldn't have filled them in about the case until this week.  The sources say cops would have typically notified them when the investigation was completed, and Winston's lawyer reportedly says cops told him it was completed in February.

Now get this ... TMZ Sports started calling police about the case on Monday.  We were told someone would get back to us later that day, but there was radio silence for 2 days ... we made repeated calls Tuesday and Wednesday and no one got back to us until late Wednesday afternoon.

Sources in the State Attorney's Office tell us ... the timing -- getting notified about the case months after it supposedly was closed and just a day after TMZ started calling -- is suspicious.

The State Attorney has now re-activated the case and sent it back to cops for further investigation.

And there's a twist -- guess what would happen if Winston was even CHARGED with felony sexual assault -- under FSU's rules ... he would be AUTOMATICALLY BENCHED ... killing the team's national championship hopes and his Heisman Trophy chances.

If the allegations didn't come with some evidence the cops wouldn't have moved on this famous college athlete. The fact that the cops didn't tell their boss - The State Attorney General - about the statis of the case at all indicates there was something to cover up. The victim will have one hell of a civil law suit against the school and the police if she can prove her case without a shadow of a doubt , not to mention criminal consequences for Jameis.

This isn't Gainesville, little do you morons know TPD couldn't care less about FSU football players. See Greg Reid. Or Greg Dent. Or Peter Warrick. The list is ENDLESS! And people wonder why journalism is dying, because news outlets like this piece of trash exist and people take their word as though it's completely true. Unbelievable.

TMZ, it is obvious that you guys did not read the police report. The alleged "Offender" was 5'9"-5'10" and Jamesis Winston is 6'4". It's scandalous that you are smearing this young kids name without even bothering to read the police report. Investigative Journalism 101: Never make assumptions. #disgraceful

While I'm impressed TMZ actually took a break from reporting on everything "Kardashian" They need to use these investigative skills to show the world what a fraud and a sham the Kardashian-Jenner family is. Harvey isn't a good journalist because he has a personal relationship with kris Jenner. To be a good journalist, you can't have a relationship with your subject which crosses the lines like Harvey's DOES! Harvey, how about letting a real non-lawyer- journalist do some serious reporting on this greedy family and stop the ass kissing for a change. We're sick of your daily suck ups.

Until you have ACTUAL evidence that cops covered anything up, or evidence that anything happened at all, shut your f*cking mouth. Jameis was never named in the original report and doesn't match any part of the description. Whoever got the ball rolling on pushing this report into the open has some sort of ulterior motive and should be ashamed. I stand by Jameis, FSU, and TPD and everyone else can suck it.

They never covered anything up. The incident happened before he was the starting QB at FSU and before FSU was undefeated. TMZ just throws **** against the wall and hopes something sticks.

The description on report doesn't mean crap. Attorney already aknowledved winston is involved. Tmz, I think overall is shoddy! Sweep what under the rug tmz ? In today's context u could try and assert that but not in 2012 or early or mid 2013. Winston had a lot of potential of course but he was relatively a nobody as compared to now. He barely squeaked by as starter over Coker who was the favorite till the end. So what your saying is the tally pd has a jack for picking future heisman trophy winners etc etc etc. I bet your hedging all the way to the bank hoping they "get him", right? After all everyone accused of wrong doing is guilty right? And oh.... Get this tmz, any nit wit knows that in collegiate sports if your charged with a felony you are automatically suspended from team? Hmmmm what a shame is someone was eventually found innocent. I thought that's the big deal in the USA. Innocent till proven guilty. Not.

This seems more like a situation where TMZ is taking the Perez Hilton route;

"Listening to one person's comments and/or opinions and blowing them up to be far more important to a matter than they are in reality."

I would have expected a lot more from TMZ than this.

the consistent connection between organized sports teams (professional, college, high school...ect) and the cover up of sexual assaults (Molestations, Rapes, Sodomy..ect) by authority figures (administration, coaches, teammates, police) seems to only rival those of the Catholic Church.
