Sure, Batkid's in Remission

11/19/2013 7:15 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The Make-a-Wish Foundation has a message for the cold-hearted jerks who complained Batkid didn't deserve his bat-wish because he's in remission -- HOW DARE YOU?!!

If you haven't heard, Make-A-Wish really outdid itself -- turning San Francisco into Gotham City for 5-year-old cancer patient Miles Scott, who wanted to be Batman for a day.

Miles has been battling lymphoblastic leukemia since he was 20 months old, but some (heinous) people on the Internet have had the audacity to say he didn't deserve his wish because he's currently in remission.

Make-A-Wish rep Josh deBerge says that's just wrong, telling us ... "We would never penalize a child for getting better."

According to the rep, when Miles was referred to the foundation he met all three eligibility requirements: 1) a life-threatening medical condition, 2) between 2-and-a-half and 18 years old, and 3) hadn't received a wish from another wish-granting organization.

And Josh says that's all that matters.

Suck it, haters.

I'm gonna say what some of you don't seem to grasp. THIS IS FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!! THE WHOLE THING IS FAKE!!!!!!
We as a people/sheep have become so accustomed to simply believing whatever's placed in front of us that we're missing the obvious. Ask yourself the following:
1) When has Make-A-Wish EVER done anything on this scale?
2) How did 20,000 people show up on the fly?
3) Why are they granting wishes to a kid that is not terminally ill? I thought that was the whole point of the foundation.
4) Where are pics of a sick Miles?
5) Wouldn't a bat suit have sufficed???? Did it really take an entire city to grant a wish? I think not.
6) Why are celebrities involved in making videos for this particular kid?
7) Since when did the President record videos for Make-A-Wish kids?
8) Why is Congress involved by "making pleas"?
9) How is a kid who received his last chemo treatment a mere 5 months ago busting around town on an action-packed crusade?
10) How did ALL the media outlets know to be there?
11) What is the govt's obsession w/ Batman? There's something to it. Oh but you guys probably think the movie theater shooting was real, too. Sandy Hook also appears on a map in The Dark Knight Rises.
12) How much did this b.s. cost?!?!?!? Are none of you questioning how much it cost to pull off this "gift" for a kid who isn't dying???
13) Isn't it odd that according to this kid's dad, "We come from a very small town, 1,000 people, where it’s nothing like this". Yeah, because no one knows these people.
14) Why are you people so quick to dismiss anyone who states the obvious? Check the facts before you attack. It's all right there in your faces but you're ignoring the clues. BATKID IS NOT REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!

All of this is nothing more than a DISTRACTION under the guise of a feel-good story involving a child. Those of you who are going off on the people who aren't buying this probably believe that 9/11, Sandy Hook, the Colorado movie shooting, etc are all real. Don't believe anything you see. Literally.

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucille Warnick

I watch TMZ daily and saw one of your own "correspondents" who are on show make the statement that it should have been a kid who still had cancer. Harvey and crew were shocked and forced him to retract. It just showed how ignorant he was about cancer .

some people are so stupid! this little boy deserved this! he has been battling cancer and has gone through things that makes many adults breakdown! my cousin was granted a wish, yes not as big because he himself asked for something simpler, he is in remission now, but he also deserved it!!

As much as I hate TMZ, This story really urks me on what our Country has become.. This kid deserves everything he got.. He has had a long battle with his illness and not having the normal childhood that many of us had or have.. Its only in remission it could come back ( I really hope not), Great Job by the Make a Wish Foundation.. How can people be so cruel to a kid they don't even know is beyond me, have a lil compassion for others that are not as fortunate as others.. Its not like he is on the corner asking for money, he is an innocent kid that had no control on what he was born with..

An OncoMom

My son is currently in "remissison" for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He has been in remission since 1 month from his diagnoses date, however he just completed three & a half years of chemotherapy which included cranial radiation. He lost his hair 3x, constantly felt sick, his bones & joints hurt from the toxic medication that is chemotherapy, spinal taps, bone marrow aspirations, hospital stays. Yet he still went to school, still smiled, he battled something most adults could never imagine going through. So for ANYONE to say Batkid did not deserve his wish because he didn't "actively have cancer" should visit a Pediatric Oncology unit because remission isn't necessarily the end of the journey.

There's a problem here

Three years of chemo and having to fight cancer before he was 2 freaking years old makes him a real superhero. He could have his wish every week if it was up to me.

Just watched TMZ Live, Shame on Derek for saying this kid didn't deserve to receive his wish! That little boy is in remission! His cancer could come back, God forbid! He has been through so much and deserved a moment of pure joy. I feel sorry for anyone who would take away something so wonderful, you should be ashamed. God bless the people who put this together. Continued prayers for "Batkid" and his family! xo

What a dirt bag your lawyer is Harvey, and your on air kid, the other dirt bad with the bad skin and dark hair. with or with out cancer, what this little 5 year old first memorys are going to be about kemo and needles. to not under stand that hopefully this will overshadow this early memories and bring a little happiness to him is not asking a lot. SHAME ON YOU AND STAFF FOR HAVING THE LACK OF CARE TO SAY AND THINK THE WAY THAT DO AND FOR YOU TO EMPLOY THIS TYPE OF S***.

To Derek obviously there is a reason you went to law school and not medical school. Just because the little boy is in remission does not mean he does not still have cancer, remission just means a decrease or disappearance of symptons.. remission
A decrease in or disappearance of signs and symptoms of cancer. In partial remission, some, but not all, signs and symptoms of cancer have disappeared. In complete remission, all signs and symptoms of cancer have disappeared, although cancer still may be in the body.

Fran Dyson

My daughter went through 2 years of Chemo (she actually killed her body to live again) and she got a wish from Make a Wish and it was well deserved. Until someone goes through that for 2 years, they really don't understand.
Her wish was a shopping spree to get new clothes that would fit her because she went from a size 7/8 to a size 0.

I'm glad Derek wasn't our TMZ Tour guide when my son and our family took the Hollywood bus tour in August as part of his Make A Wish trip.
