Beyonce 'Trivialized' Deaths of Challenger Crew

1/1/2014 6:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

got off easy with NASA ... rather than saying she blatantly exploited the deaths of the Challenger astronauts, the space agency essentially said she dishonored the memories of the crew.

As you know ... Beyonce's song, "XO" begins with sound from mission control in 1986 ... as they react to the spaceship blowing up and the 7 crew members careening to the ground.

NASA 's response ... "The Challenger accident is an important part of our history; a tragic reminder that space exploration is risky and should never be trivialized."

Beyonce came out with a bizarre, hollow justification ... "The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones to remind us that unexpected things happen ..."

It's not exactly that there was suddenly a burning need to help the families cope with the deaths that are almost 2 decades old.

Could it be that Beyonce just knows good drama when she sees it?

don't you think she meant the deaths of other families not the Space Shuttle families-, such as anyone who's lost family members, that she thinks her song will help any family that lost someone unexpectedly

She faked an entire pregnancy, lied to everyone about it....why not lie about this too? Unreal, I don't know why she that this was ok? & why doesn't she have people on her team to tell her things like this!? Her father is a pastor, you'd think at least HE would have said something!

i don't think she meant any harm. but she should have known better. Using that as a sample in that way screams of trying to be edgy and trying to use it to get some kind of sick retro cult vibe or something. but it is just a horrible, disrespectful thing to glorify for a pop song.

Leave Beyoncé alone. Ya'll so desperate to criticize her. It's a good song with a message about how fleeting life is. So sorry for the Challenger families, though. I doubt Beyoncé set out to hurt anybody. It's annoying that people jump at the chance to drag Beyoncé. She's such a talent.

The song does not stand on its own. She needs the controversy to get people to listen to it. The more fuss, the more people go You Tube the song.

it just a bunch of nonsense. If they took the time to actually understand the lyrics of the song, It’s about mortality, and about the urgency of spending time with the ones you love before you lose them, because you never know when that could be. “Baby kiss me/ Before they turn the lights out,” Beyoncé sings, and later, “You better kiss me/ Before our time is run out.

i think that nasa should be ashamed of itself for calling the accident a major malfunction to begin with. nasa should apologize to the families for causing the accident to begin with. nasa is a major malfunction!

I grew up on the West coast of Florida, and we were lucky enough to be able to watch shuttle launches from our front yard. I remember seeing the Challenger explosion from my front yard, and my Dad yanking my sister and I into the house trying to save us from the heartbreak of what we as a family had just witnessed. Using this audio for any form of "entertainment" is heartless and disgusting.
