Bounce House Disaster

Winds Lift Kids 20 Feet in the Air

5/13/2014 1:26 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

Bounce House DisasterIt looked like a replay of the Balloon Boy fiasco ... but this time 2 boys were seriously injured when they fell out of a children's bounce house that got lifted 20 feet in the air by strong winds.

It all went down in South Glens Falls in upstate New York ... where cops say the two boys (ages 5 and 6) both suffered serious injures. They were airlifted to Albany Medical Center and their current condition is unknown.

WNYT says parents told them one boy landed on a parked car and the other landed on asphalt. There was a third child in the house when it went airborne, a 10-year-old girl, but she was apparently uninjured.

While police said the house was blown 20 feet in the air, WNYT says it was more like 50.

Police say the bounce house was staked into the ground and several adults were present at the time. Right now police say they are viewing the incident as a "tragic accident" and don't expect any charges to be filed.

That looks like more than 20 feet. I hope all the kids recover quickly. But why was this play house not tied down properly?

I bet anything they didn't bother to stake it down. I can see in the picture the loops for it (the little red things at the corners), so it isn't like it would have been hard to do.

You want to report real news that's fine. But don't try to tie it to entertainment by linking it to a stupid publicity stunt.

Those bounce houses lift up all the time in the slightest of gusts it seems. Staking them down is never safe. They should have cement or concrete pads of some sort to attach them to when they set those things up. Or perhaps a metal frame that goes around the entire bottom of the thing out of the way of kids hitting themselves on it but weighting it to the ground.

Was it a Wizard of Oz themed bounce house and was the uninjured girl inside named Dorothy? I jest. Prayers for those children, seriously.

I hope the kids are ok, but I would pay to go up 50 feet in a bouncy house. I trademark ParaBounceHouse!

The bounce houses that people "rent" are made of 18oz thick vinyl and weigh several hundred pounds. The one in this picture is clearly the cheap nylon type that you buy at Walmart not for commercial use. This bounce house weighs maybe 20lbs. If it was not stacked down in all 4 corners PROPERLY this is what happens.

Ya think

In a case such as this, how the hell did possible charges even enter the picture?

The owner of the bounce house business better start transferring assets to family members ASAP.
