Oprah Winfrey is mourning the loss of her mentor, Maya Angelou, saying the legendary poet "guided [her] through some of the most important years of [her] life."

Angelou passed away on Wednesday at her home in North Carolina at the age of 86.

Angelou had a close relationship with Winfrey, who said ... "What stands out to me most about Maya Angelou is not what she has done or written or spoken, it’s how she lived her life.  She moved through the world with unshakeable calm, confidence and a fierce grace."

Oprah continued, "I loved her and I know she loved me. I will profoundly miss her.  She will always be the rainbow in my clouds.”

I was wondering how long it would take for Oprah to make it all about her.

I always though of Maya Angelou as ageless, so I was saddened to hear of her death.

As a struggling white man I never related to her poetry.

I can not believe how disrespectful people can be. This suppose to be a place where you express your sorrows about Ms. Angelou, not use it to disrespect a legend. Some of you people need to grow and stop acting so immature; oh wait how can someone stop acting immature when they still have a mind like a 10 year old.

Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.

Today there are very few people that are positive roll models, and we have just lost one of them.

Thank You Maya for the wisdom you gave us.

Oprah's bought a lot of unknowns and/or little-cared-about authors/creative people.

BACK into the National Consciousness.

Oprah didn't have to.

Didn't do it for plaudits, credit, self.

Another rave review for Oprah.

And in Heaven itself.

If it's true we have to use our platform/gifts for the good of others/mankind.

Oprah's leading the field.

The league.

In home runs, RBI's and batting average.

Going on forever.

Farewell, Maya.
