Exclusive Details

Zendaya Drops Out Of Aaliyah MovieDisney channel star Zendaya Coleman has officially dropped out of Lifetime's planned biopic about Aaliyah ... on the heels of the deceased singer's family speaking out against the flick.

Zendaya's rep says she's no longer involved with the project ... and sources close to the production say a whole bunch of factors played a part including the negative reaction from Aaliyah's family.

For now, Lifetime says production has been put on hold.

As we previously reported, Aaliyah's uncle/former manager told us no one from the network contacted them before announcing the movie. They believe Aaliyah deserves big screen treatment.

So far, Lifetime hasn't said if they're gonna fill the role ... or cease production on the movie.

This movie does not need to be made. She wasn't a star, younger people don't even know who she was. The Queen of the Damned movie she starred in was set to go straight to video, only her death made it a few bucks.

Why would they get a Mexican to play her anyway, she looks nothing like her

She wasn't the right person to play the part for many reasons.

Zendaya isn't mexican. Her mom is white & her dad is black. Educate yourself before you speak.

I don't think she was big enough for a big screen movie

How about the movie about Aaliyah just gets dropped and not made altogether... then her family can STFU and sit down... Aaliyah was a small star and not worthy of big budget type project like Whitney Houston...

Zendaya is a phenomenal role model! She excepts that she's a role model to young girls. Smh she gets no love

I can understand a little why the Money hungry houston family would be upset since whitney houston was a mega star. Aaliyah was not that big of a star to get a theater movie. Most of the time TV movies are better than theater movies so they should be happy she is getting some type of movie on her life.

This is ridiculous that greed is playing a role in this film for TV. Lifetime would have given more viewers the chance to see this movie and ratings would have gone thru the floor. No one in the film industry offered to do a movie on Aaliyah but lifetime. And than haters out there have run off the only girl that is as close to looking like Aaliyah and admired her as well. Sometimes people really suck the life out of good. Go back to the reality garbage on TV and don't chase off talent!!!

Aaliyah was a beautiful, talented girl with plenty of hit songs. If she was alive today there would be no Beyoncé

Good lord is this a black website now?

The family suffers from the Jackson Family Syndrome - how to make money off their deceased relative. Only difference is that MJ was a heck of a lot more famous than Aaliyah, and there's not going to be much interest in a movie about her.

I don't find her family to be "greedy" at all. They knew her best and should have been involved in the casting and production every step of the way. Speaking as a huge fan, Aaliyah wasn't just anyone, or even a one-hit wonder. She was a rising star who would be silencing the likes of many female artists today had she not been killed. A movie on the big screen (Lifetime? For real?) would do her memory and her talent justice. Everything about her as a person and an artist was way too cool for this whole thing to play out so I'm not surprised with the outcome.
