Retired baseball player Derek Jeter was born on June 26, 1974 in Pequannock Township, New Jersey to a biracial couple. His mom, Dorothy, is white and his dad, Charles, is black. Jeter has a sister, Sharlee. The Jeter family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when he was four, but he grew up as a New York Yankees fan and set the goal at a young age that he would play for the team. He was drafted straight out of Central High School and spent the entirety of his 20-year MLB career as the shortstop for the Yankees, winning five World Series Championships in pinstripes and serving as the club’s captain. Jeter retired in 2014 and his number two jersey was retired in 2017. He was given a plaque in Monument Park. Jeter also won the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award in 2009. Since retiring, Jeter has remained busy with business, entrepreneurial, and philanthropic endeavors. He is a part-owner and CEO of the Miami Marlins, founder of multimedia company The Players Tribune, and partner and brand development officer for food brand Luvo. He partnered with Simon & Schuster in November 2013 on the Jeter Publishing imprint and remains involved with the charity he founded in 1996, Turn 2 Foundation. Jeter married wife Hannah, a former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model, in July 2016 and the couple welcomed daughter, Bella Raine, on August 17, 2017.
