Jonathan Cheban is backing off from his threats to sue Kris Humphries ... saying the idea has "caused me a lot of problems already."
Cheban had been contemplating suing Kris for $5 million after Kris called him "gay" on TV.
But Jonathan has had a change of heart -- perhaps brought on by his run-in with a Kris fan last weekend -- and says he has no hard feelings toward Kris.
