Aaron Carter is a "grown ass man" who doesn't sing about candy anymore, bro -- and he'll whine like a baby if you try to make him.

The former tween heartthrob is on tour right now, but his show in Virginia this week came to a dead stop when a fan yelled for him to sing, "I Want Candy" ... y'know, his hit from 2000 ... when he was about 12.

Aaron's reaction is ridiculous -- he's only doing new stuff these days -- and the crowd got pissed, so he just bounced ... until his hype man saved the day.
