R.I.P.
Ike Turner Has Died

ike turnerTMZ has confirmed that music legend and the former Mr. Anna Mae Bullock has died. He was 76.

Turner apparently died in his home in San Marcos, Calif., just outside of San Diego.

Sources close to the family tell TMZ he may have died in his sleep.

TMZ caught up with the R&B star back in May after the legend spent a night in jail after his bogus arrest over a recalled 1989 warrant.

Ike was married four times, most famously to Tina Turner. The famous singing duo had seven top ten R&B songs and famously divorced in 1978 amidst his constant abuse towards her.

Ike has four known children: sons Ike Jr., Michael, Ronald and daughter Mia.

The Recording Academy issued the following the statement about Turner's passing: "There is no doubt that Ike Turner was one of rock and roll's great architects with his genre-defying sound as an instrumentalist and bandleader ... As a two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and recipient of The Recording Academy's 2004 Heroes Award, Ike's legacy as a groundbreaking pioneer in the music industry will never be forgotten."

152. It's funny how hypocritical and narrow minded everyone here is. A man has passed away and there are people here who said he deserved it because he was a wife beater? If Tina could forgive him, how come you can't? I'm sure a lot of these people who are passing judgment are victims or know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse which is never okay.

By using this same standard that anyone who had committed domestic abuse, this means that you also believe Martin Luther King JR. deserved to die the way he did because "he had it coming to him because he was a wife beater". He has national holiday and we celebrate all the great things he did for our country, but none if should matter because he was a "wife beater". If you want to chastise a man after he passes, do it fairly and with apply it to all individuals. Think about it.

153. Despite the disturbing personal lives of Ike Turner and Phil Spector, the recording they did with Tina of "River Deep, Mountain High" is one of the greatest songs ever committed to vinyl.
#110, I thought Sam Phillips discovered Elvis Presley...

154. I just wish everyone could get off the drugs. I wonder what his life would have been like without them. He obviously was a talented man. As for Tina.....she is one classy lady and my guess is that she hopes he is finally out of his own personal Hell which he lived in. I would be surprised if she spoke out publically, but I am sure she will issue a statement thru her publicist.

157. In response to several unkind remarks re:Tina. Tina is very much alive, retired from touring (@ age 67. She has a home overlooking The Atlantic(France) and a home in Zurich, Switzerland. She is still recording and doing charitable interventions for Unicef, among other agencies. With regard to her "dead" career, she has filled more stadiums and musical venues than any other female solo entertainer ever. All this, despite physical, mental and emotional abuse of 16 years duration. I acknowledge Ike's contribution of music and am grateful that he experienced the success of his 2007 Grammy, truly. Now, as is inevitable for us all- its' God's call.

160. If no one liked Ike because he was such a badperson and didn't care about other's feelings, then what would those who still bash him even after his death, be considered to be from others who read and hear what they say about him now?

let him rest in peace

161. I was Ike's drummer from 2001-2006. In short, he was not the man that he was portrayed as by the media. I was there when he passed away, and it was about 10:50-11am on Wednesday the 12th.

It's a strange thing that his whole band was gathered at his home for a surprise party- we were the ones who got the surprise!

Ike always said "Man, when I have my band behind me, I can do anything". It's with that spirit that leads me to believe 100% we were brought there for him so that he could pass on. He was scared of dying, just as he was always a little frightened about going on stage. His band backed him up for his final gig, and that was "crossing over" to the other side.

When I read comments by the uninformed about how he was an evil guy, he was an abuser, etc...the old "party bylines" that are espoused....I actually feel a bit sorry for the writer; usually it's someone who has no clue as to who/what Ike's life turned into, and 99% of the time it's a self-righteous "believer" type whom, with such fervor as they bash Ike, exemplify a hypocrisy that is rivaled by none. The man made mistakes. He paid until the very end for his darkest moments in life, and still posthumously he cannot shake the stigma that was branded upon him.

Nevermind that he created this wonderful thing we know as "rock & roll". Nevermind that his stigmata raised awareness towards domestic violence. Nevermind that he was a gentle and caring soul that would extend to his friends whatever he could, should they come to him in need. That's the Ike I remember.

And to be invited into his home for that final day of his life- to literally witness his final breath and passing. I cannot think of a better gift; one that will be surpassed by very few. After all, the people who were there in his home were his most trusted and closest friends. I feel honored to have been among them. I guess my quest to speak kind of the man who I knew not as a monster or villain, but as a friend and mentor who showed me the path towards being a better person and overcoming obstacles. I miss him dearly already.

165. Ike was a great musician. He was no doubt not a good husband to Tina, that being said we have lossed a great pioneer. He did have more than the 4 children listed I happen to know he has a daughter that is a singer in the Vallejo Sacramento claifornia area name Tawanda Turner.
