Actors Tased,

Pepper Sprayed

... 'N' Word Used

7/16/2008 9:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright, who were arrested this past weekend at a Shreveport, La. bar, were pepper sprayed and tased by cops. And, we're told, police went on a vulgar rant -- and portions were caught on cell phone video.

The incident occurred during a wrap party for Oliver Stone's movie "W" about the Prez. Local station KTBS reports and TMZ sources say Wright, who plays Colin Powell, was repeatedly tasered and pepper sprayed as he lay prone on his stomach in the street. We know witnesses heard the officers using extremely foul language, including the "N" word, directed at Wright.

Our sources say Brolin was observed by witnesses attempting to make peace and standing still as he was repeatedly sprayed in the eyes by cops.

The city attorney has not decided whether to file criminal charges against Brolin, Wright or the others for interfering with a police officer.

Neither one of these actors has had a hint of this behavior, especially Mr. Wright. Let me add this state as another I refuse to drive thru or fly over!

#87 Here's what the local station said about how it all started.

"The city today released initial offense reports police filed about the incident, which happened over the weekend at StrayCat bar on Travis Street downtown. Police were called there by a bar employee who wanted a rowdy patron removed.

When it was over, the actors and five crew members had been arrested. A taser had been used on Wright and he and Brolin were hit with pepper spray when they wouldn't quit holding onto each other, police said.

The initial offense report contained few details about the incident. It said crew member Eric Felland had been asked to leave but refused. Police said he was "physically escorted out."

The police report said one officer wound up on the ground while trying to arrest a second person. The man, who was not identified, was eventually handcuffed. "

This isn't racism so much as it is puffed-up cops on a power trip. Something about being a cop gives these guys an ego the size of Texas. I've known nice guys become not-so-nice after graduating from the academy. And these cops are EVERYWHERE, North and South.

Frankly, these types of cops WORSHIP Dubya and have probably been salivating at the prospect of beating up some Hollywood liberals...but waited until the movie was wrapped up so the city would still get the financial benefits.

how dumb

To #89 - Erin. If I had been black and a white officer did that to me, you'd probably be the FIRST to say I was discriminated against because I was black.

Believe me - this black officer had quite the racist problem. U weren't there. So keep ur opinions to urself. YOU MUST BE BLACK cuz God forbid you admit a white person was discriminated against.

What on earth does Jackson muttering the N word have to do with racist cops repeatedly tazering and beating a man while calling him the N-word?

Don't tell me he hear jesse jackson say it so he figured it was alright. Some people can't except the fact that racism is still alive.

Your lack of intelligence is simply inexcusable- please stop insulting yourself - get an education & perhaps you will then be more prepared to better yourself, and likewise your race. & dont defend Jesse - if it is racist for this cop to use - it is just as racist when Jesse or ANYONE of ANY COLOR uses it. Thank you.

You may think Jesse's utterance has nothing to do with racism, but it does & when you try to defend or overlook racism in any form, you are part of the problem. It is not ok for cops to allow their own bigotry to influence how they do their jobs & it is likewise not ok for Jesse Jackson to do the exact same thing. Actually it is much worse for a man of his "prestige" to be racist against others, when he has preached and harped for years and years about how horrible "other"
races THAT is the pot calling the kettle black. He should be ashamed & so should you for not recognizing the harm he has done. HE IS KEEPING HATE, NOT HOPE, ALIVE. He of all people should hold himself to a higher regard. By belittling his use of it, you are belittling racism in its entirety. IT IS NOT OK FOR ANYONE TO USE IT - ENOUGH OF THE DOUBLE STANDARD - stop perpetrating hate in any form, against ANY & ALL PEOPLE. IT IS PAST TIME TO WIPE IT OUT IN ALL ITS FORMS. Thank you.

Ok, so I went to New Orleans & then Shreveport right after Katrina (& the unfounded, ignorant claims of people being "left there" by Bush is ludicrous - they were TOLD to leave days in advance - why is their bad decision his fault - oh, yeah, I forget - some people refuse to be responsible for themselves & their actions & feel better blaming it on someone else) as a RC volunteer & what I saw in New Orleans was alot of BLACK, WHITE & HISPANICE people working their butts off side by side rebuilding offices, restaurants, schools, houses, roads, clinics, etc. & in Shreveport I was part of the effort to somehow organize & match up common, everyday WHITE, BLACK & HISPANIC people who lost everything in New Orleans with WHITE, BLACK, HISPANIC & OTHER PEOPLE in Shreveport & the surrounding areas who opened their HOMES, hearts & pocketbooks to those devasted victims & readily, happily allowed total strangers to reside with them in the interim of finding permanent housing. How many of you in other states besides the GREAT states of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennesee, Florida & the Carolinas did ANYTHING to help?? Shreveport is a great city, full of great people, unfortunately of course there are bad people there too, BUT at least the majority of residents helped tremendously when called upon, just like HOUSTON. What did any of you Californians do???? Stop complaining about Louisiana & its great people as if you know all of them personally! Collectively, Southern states & Southern people are much more generous, agreeable, helpful, kind & loving than any other states' residents. My experience in my volunteer work allows me to have personal insight on the matter. Does any of yours??? If not, speak not.

Nobody said anything about anyone in your race being stupid, ignorant & uneducated, you're the only one that was referred to in the previous post ohhsoyoungblack&stupidbro. Of course it was VERY hard to understand your post & it had to be "twisted" to pull any coherency out of it at all. You really should take the previous posters advice, do yourself a favor & go back (??) to school at ANY level, as your stupidity knows no bounds.

Stop hating on the South!! I'm from Lousiana...YES there are some racist people there, but I also lived for 5 years in Boston and there were just as many racists there. It's unfortunate that this happened in Shreveport - which, by the way is a lovely town, with many very nice people. We don't know the whole story, and the sad truth is that there are people who are racist in the north and the south. Stereotypes suck!!

Most of the people on this blog are just ignorant of the facts. You call this city racist, and the cops rednecks, but you don't realize that both the mayor and the chief of police of Shreveport are both African American. Next time, before you start bad mouthing a place, make sure you get your facts straight. In terms of movies, and there being a problem for stars in Shreveport, just ask some of the stars that have filmed here, and subsequently purchased property here. Shreveport is a great place for actors and movies, and has continued to help facilitate the studios in filming here. Some are correct though that Lousiana, with a capital LA, cops don't play around. If you mess with them they will take you in, as they should. Actors shouldn't get favoritism and should be treated just like the rest of us. If you think otherwise, then you can go back to where you came from.
