Chris Brown's New Mystery Court Hearing

3/12/2009 5:55 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown, RihannaChris Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, has requested an unscheduled hearing even before Brown's arraignment in the alleged beating of Rihanna -- and it has to do with Rihanna testifying in the case -- or not testifying!

We've learned the case has been officially moved to L.A. County Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg. She's the judge who signed the search warrant in the case.

The hearing is set for March 23. It will take place in Judge Schnegg's chambers. Prosecutors will join Geragos but Chris Brown will not be present.

Geragos is the one who requested the meeting. We know it involves Rihanna's possible testimony in the case. Will Geragos ask the judge to block prosecutors from calling Rihanna or limiting her testimony? We don't know for sure.

We do know the meeting has nothing to do with a plea bargain.

The arraignment is still set for April 6.

Sorry, I should have said the judge will decide if Rihanna will HAVE to testify. Not what she will say.

If the judge decides she should tesify, she'll be subpoenaed and will have no choice.

But, as #13 said, this is now a crime against the state. It's the State of California vs. Chris Brown - not Rihanna vs. Chris Brown.

I think this whole upcoming hearing will only serve to decide if charges will stay the same. If pros thinks they can get a conviction on the charges as they stand right now, even without Rihanna's testimony - then they will not reduce the charges nor will they offer a plea bargain.

If this duet is for real, I hope radio stations across america are not STUPID enough to play it. No one should capitalize from physcial abuse. No one!

Rihanna may get KILLED before the March 23rd hearing. One blow is all it takes! Like Sean Paul sang with her in a better DUET on album #2...."Break it OFF!"

protectthekidz, just another question, oh what grounds could she be required to testify. Surely the judge cannot take sides in this matter?

i am so so sick of this whole thing. Every one, Tyra Banks, Oprah, Ellen even Robin Givens are using this as an opportunity to get a little more attention for themselves. If they care about battered women - volunteer at a shelter or donate some money to fund places like My Sisters House. Things that will help woman who have truly been abused and have none of the resources that Rhianna has. And maybe someone should have told Chris a while back - "If she hits you once she will hit you again" - then may be he would have gotten out of this dysfuntional relationship before he commited this horrid act.

"Brown is a Punk" put it perfectly, I mean you people are on the internet anyway, why not try LOOKING SOMETHING UP before making a response?!?!?!

Defending Brown is sick. Cheers to Oprah for highlighting this problem. It is problem with our youth. Young men beating up young girlfriends is real and if not talked about people start to think it is ok. The victims start to think that is ok behavior. It is not! Brown needs mental help! Anyone defending Brown may also start looking up the Yellow Pages for mental help as well!!!

PEOPLE SHE SLAPPED THE GUY TWICE ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS. DOES IT COUNT THAT PERHAPS, HE MAY HAVE BEEN DEFENDING HIMSELF? DID YOU ALSO FORGOT THAT SHE BEGAN SLAPPING WHILE HE WAS DRIVING? DID YOUR MOM TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD SLAP A MAN AND HE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO DEFEND HIMSELF? WHERE IS TMZ WHEN IT COMES TO TRUTH. IT IS ALL ONE SIDED. SHE NEEDS TO ALSO BE ACCOUNTABLE TO HER SIDE. SHE S T A R T E D PEOPLE. She slapped him previosuly twice in Barbados and if TMZ wants the truth, they should have also pointed that out like NYDailyNews did. Stop the madness. As a woman I do not condone violence or domestic abuse but in some cases as in this one, she was the instigator and guess who is paying for it. Not her but the guy. Go figure.

This a*s needs to be thrown in jail but at the same time while I have great sympathy for what Rihanna went through I think that she looses all sorts of credibility by going back to this punk. While there is no excuse period for domestic abuse there also will be a lot less symapthy the second time around.

Duh. It was obvious she wasn't going to testify. Her lawyer thought he was being so tricky with his verbal tap dance. Lawyers think they are so clever and slick, but they are just a party joke. Doesn't say anything about her lawyer being there, but doesn't matter because he seems to be just for show. Chris Brown's "people" seem to be running the game, paying the lapdog lawyer.

You know, the courts might not prosecute him, but the court of public opinion will. Rihanna might forgive him, but the people and his fans have not. If he wants to truly rise above this, he needs to do some time. He needs to suck it up and admit he was wrong and go to jail. Only then will the public feel he has paid his debt. But to try and weasel his way out of the consequences of his actions, will only make people more resentful towards him and also unwilling to forget what happened. If Chris truly wants a fresh start, he needs to suck it up, face the charges like a man, then after he's gone that, THEN ask the public for forgiveness. If he tries to avoid jailtime, he'll avoid jail, but his career's death warrant will be signed by the public from then on. Come on Chris, quit playing games, you know you did wrong, quit trying to fight the consequences.

If its true that they got married, my guess is the hearing is to determine whether Rihanna can be forced to testify now that she is legally married to him.

I DON'T CONDONE WHAT BROWN DID AT ALL ,BUT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE CAN'T CHANGE. EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE. OUR COUNTRY IS QUITE PATHETIC WHEN CHILDREN HAVE TO LOOK UP TO ENTERTAINERS/CELEBRITIES AS ROLE MODELS. WHY CAN'T PARENTS WHO WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES BE THEIR CHILDREN'S ROLE MODELS? IF I'M A PARENT AND I'M NOT MY CHILD'S ROLE MODEL THEN ITS MEAN THAT I'M DOING SOMETHING. SO STOP FORCING CELEBRITIES TO BE ROLE MODELS FOR YOUR KIDS. ENTERTAINERS ARE THERE TO ENTERTAIN US, NOT BE ROLE MODELS.
