In the early '80s, Melle Mel had hits like "The Message" and "White Lines" and is considered one of the pioneers of hip-hop. Guess what he looks like now!

Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel were definitely the first hip-hop-type music I ever heard. White lines was one crazy song. My older brother had it on cassette.

This is the way ALL entertainers should grow older gracefully , he had the look of the times at the time- now he looks like any other man who is out of show biz and living his life. Love him.

Re: #5 TheTruth

Thank you for teaching the kids about the origin of music they are listening to today. IMHO "The Message" is still the greatest rap ever recorded.

Damn, Hip Hop and cRap music is that old? When are they gonna blow up the genre like they did with disco at a baseball game in the 70s? It couldn't be soon enough. Audio defecation passed off as art is not real music, it's zoo animal noise.

Rapologist-Critic

No, one ever gave Melle Mel credit unti after 1994 when a guy talked about him in a book called "The Origin of Rap Music" and on a cassette tape called "Rapologist Speaks '94" in 1994. After that, Source and the whole so-called "hip-hop" world followed suite. Melle Mel is my age in his forties, he's just had a hard life with them drugs.
