Michael Douglas' Son Gets 5 Years in Prison

4/20/2010 4:54 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Douglas' son Cameron was just sentenced to five years in prison -- for his role in a major drug dealing operation.

Cameron Douglas -- along with his father and his mother Diandra -- was present in federal court in Manhattan today when the judge fired off the sentence.

Along with the prison time, Cameron was ordered to pay $25,000 in fines and must serve 450 hours of community service. Once he's out of the joint, Cameron is also required to spend an additional 5 years in a supervised release program.

Back in January, Cameron pled guilty to dealing large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.

I'm with you, but now a days even a poor white guy would have done more time. Probably not life, but he would have done 15+ for all the dope he got caught with.

Which means he'll only serve 11 months.

Are you sure?

Rich people and celebrities get a way with murder. If he had been a poor black guy he would have been sent away for ever! What an injustice!!!

Federal guidelines require him to server 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for release. So he'll be in there for at least 4 years, 3 months. He possibly could get some credit for time already served as well though.

What was all that crap about ten year minimum? And as for all the whining about rich and famous people and their kids get the breaks. Welcome to the real world, chumps. And beautiful girls with big boobs get lots of breaks, too. Unfair? You betcha. But anyone who thinks life is fair, is either very young or just plain stupid.

If it were a black man doing the same thing- 10-20 years!
Outrageous.
Justice is only for the rich.

Cameron Douglas, look at this prison time as an opportinunity to educate yourself, and get a degree in film productionBureau of Prisons. "Each Federal prison has its own education department that provides educational activities to Federal inmates. The Division manages literacy and occupational training programs, parenting programs. - activities, which are formal instructional classes designed to increase inmates' general knowledge in a wide variety of subjects, such as writing and math. Get your GED in english, and specialize in screen play writing, and when you get out, you will be able to possibly get back into hollywood, and become something.

It is quite obvious that he got special treatment because of who he is and his financial resources. I don't know what the anwer is, but there clearly IS no justice in a system where the amount of "justice" you can expect is almost entirely determined by your wealth and your connections.

I'm an Attorney who specializes in Federal Court. Please get your facts straight. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) requires an inmate sentenced in Federal Court to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence. Thus, he will have to do at least 51 of the 60 months he was given. Second, I haven't read any of the court docs, I would be willing to venture that Cameron received a reduced sentence due to "Cooperation" and not because of his famous family. In other words, he probably ratted some other people out or at least gave the US Attorney's Office info that helped in the prosecution of other individuals. Sentencing guidelines are pretty strict and this is a fairly big departure for it to be for anything other than cooperation. Before any of you say it was a slap on the wrist, maybe you should try serving even 1 year in a Federal Prison with all your rights stripped away and removed from your friends and family.

He got off easy. I wonder just how much money his father had to pay out to make that happen?
