Pitbull Alves -- Gunning for Summer Comeback

4/30/2010 4:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0331_thiago_alves_ex_ufcUFC badass Thiago "Pitbull" Alves is only one month into his recovery from brain surgery -- but TMZ has learned the fighter is already trying to book his next professional fight ... for July!!

Sources close to Alves tell us the fighter -- who was sidelined from UFC 111 last month after a CAT Scan showed an irregularity in his brain -- is gunning to return to the Octagon for UFC 116 on July 3.

As we previously reported, Alves underwent an 8-hour procedure on his brain at the end of March to prevent internal bleeding.

Sources say Alves had a follow-up CAT Scan on Tuesday in New York -- which we're told shows the surgery was a complete success.

Now all Alves has to do is send the test results to the New Jersey State Athletic Commission -- and if everything checks out, he'll get the go ahead to fight.

Come on!

TMZ, this is bull ish! Stop posting this garbage. There was no brain surgery. The guy had a knee injury. I don't follow this shi.te. But had to call you on it. No sport sites talk about this. It is a fabricated story (brain surgery) to try and get attention. That shows no credibility right there. That Dana White guy is a s*** bag just tryin to promote this garbage. How much is he paying you Harvey for this misleading coverage? You guys have been going way out of the way to try and make something out of nothing with this baloney. Enough already.

Great news. Alves is such a great fighter! And what are all these comments about? There was no brain surgery? lol...why would an athletic commission publish these reports if they aren't true? And why would UFC pull him off a card if they weren't true! You guys are nuts!! BTW, MMA is the most exciting - and fastest growing SPORT in the world.

You guys are all idiots if you think this is fake. Thiago could have died if he went ahead and fought at UFC 111, but they caught this 3 days before the fight and probably saved his life. Nothing but a bunch of uneducated hipsters posting stupid bull**** without knowing th facts. Thank you for the update TMZ and I hope Alves whoops some ass in July!
