Jillian Michaels Sued

'Potentially Lethal'

Diet Product

8/4/2010 7:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

"Biggest Loser" star Jillian Michaels was just slapped with another multi-million dollar lawsuit over her weight loss products -- and this time, it's about a detox supplement that allegedly "might kill you."

Jillian Michaels Lawsuit
The class action lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, was filed today in L.A. County Superior Court by a woman who only wants to be known by her initials -- R.D. -- due to her "very real fear of retaliation OR harassment by Defendants."

In the lawsuit, R.D. claims Jillian's "Triple Process Total Body Detox & Cleanse" diet supplement contains a "potentially lethal combination of toxic ingredients" ... and it "might kill you."

In the suit, R.D. lays out what she considers to be the risks associated with various ingredients in Jillian's product, including:

-- Irish Moss Powder ... "causes gastrointestinal ulcers" and is "so toxic that it is the gel commonly applied to aircraft wings to dissolve ice"
-- Bearberry ... "known to cause nausea and vomiting"
-- Yarrow ... "a toxic lawn weed that causes dermatitis"
-- Chinese Rhubarb ... "a harsh laxative and dangerous diuretic that can cause sever dehydration and may cause irreversible liver damage"
-- Fenugreek Seed ... "interferes with digestion and causes both diarrhea and gas"

R.D. is suing Jillian and Thin Care International for more than $10 million for "actively and fraudulently" conspiring to hide the alleged dangers of their product.

If this story sounds familiar, it's not the first ... second ... or even the third time Jillian has been sued by people who claim her diet products are potentially toxic.

Fenugreek is commonly used by women to increase milk production during breastfeeding. I'm not saying Jillian is right, but you would think that if fenugreek was that harmful that they wouldn't allow lactating women to use it.

While I'm not a fan of diet supplements of any kind, I couldn't help but notice these "dangerous ingredients" are homeopatheic ingredients that I am familiar with and are used safely. Anything can have side effects, and these ingredients are no different, but should be safe in the correct dosages. I've used those same ingredients as remedies for illnesses. The person who filed this suit just doesn't understand homeopathy. I don't think it will have any merritt.

lol #19....some errors on this fact list...such as birth name and orientation. The person suing should pick up Jillian's books. In them she specifically warns against doing any 'cleanses' as they are harmful and potentially dangerous. Use her words against her. I guess she changed her mind when a big check was presented...

The Truth

This lawsuit is B.S. Each one of the ingredients are in numerous products in health food stores everywhere, and there aren't any lawsuits against any of those companies. The problem is that people abuse the products by not following the simple instructions. Instead of attacking a product, or an individual, take the time to do your research on these items. Write about Monsonto, the dangers of SLS in health products, and MSG in food.

THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT IS WALK , MOVE AROUND AND EAT! BUT DONT TRY AND EAT AFTER 7PM. DONT WORRY YOU WONT GET SICK BUT IF YOU DO GET HUNGRY SNACK ON VEGGIES AND THATS IT.DONT BELIEVE ALL THESE COMMERCIALS . ITS JUST THEM TRYING TO GET OUR MONEY!!! and dont starve yourself because everyone looks good with some meat on their bodies. you have to remember when your watching these stars you need to picture them having 10 pounds taken off of them because thats what TV does. dont stress over weight issues either. good luck to anyone who wants to lose weight. :)

Don't take any pills that clearly cause you to spontaneously turn from (presumably) a female into whatever "she" is now

There are lots of dangerous dietary supplement products on the market because since 1994 there has been zero regulation for what goes in them or what the manufacturer can claim the products do. Consumer Reports just released a report on a study they did looking at what is actually in some of this stuff and it is scary and nauseating (not all manufacturers are offenders, but the consumer has little way of sorting out the honest players from the cons). Some 'American' products were actually produced in China and contain known toxins and poisons. Unlike food or drugs, supplement manufacturers aren't required to disclose where their items are manufactured (although the good ones voluntarily do and many voluntarily submit to regulatory inspection even though they don't have to). They took their findings to Congress this week and pleaded with them to do something before more people are needlessly injured or killed by irresponsible manufacturers. No other industry is given carte blanche to produce and market dangerous products, so it sort of surprising this has gone on for so long. Given this lady's products are now the subject of numerous suits, I would assume that where there is smoke, there is at least a toxin or two.
