Steven Slater -- Props From the Slide Company

8/12/2010 7:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

There's one company that's thrilled with the way Steven Slater left his JetBlue plane during Monday's heroic departure -- the people who built the slide.

Steven Slater Slide
TMZ has learned the people at Goodrich -- who manufacture the inflatable emergency evacuation slide for the JetBlue Embraer ERJ-190 plane -- tell us they're "pleased" with the way the slide performed during Slater's infamous moment.

A rep for the company tells us the slide "functioned properly ... just like it was designed to."

As for Slater's technique -- Goodrich says, "From what we can tell, he did things exactly the way he was supposed to ... with the exception of throwing his luggage down the slide."

FYI -- Goodrich claims that if you're ever in a similar situation -- let the baggage go.

Hey may have been assaulted and there should be consequences for the person who did that...BUT he was arrested for his own actions which violated Federal Law regarding his actions in deploying the slide without authorization (thereby endangering anyone on the ground who did not know this was happening who may have been standing in the way of the slide)...he also was NOT authorized to be on the tarmac (only authorized personnel are allowed there, flight attendants are not authorized personnel on the tarmac), AND when he took the beers...well, you can add possession of alcohol on the job to the list.

So many people do not seem to realize that anyone who works in the airline industry is answerable to federal laws/regulations. It's not as though he was a waiter who went off on someone in a restaurant and stormed off the job. There was protocol in place he could have followed, but chose not to...in order to take care of the unruly passengers. The pilot of that plane has the authority to refuse to dock at the terminal and stop the plane where it sits if people refuse to sit down. They also could have notified the gate to have air-marshalls/security waiting for the unruly passengers to escort them to security. These things did not happen. If he had notified the pilot and the plane had been stopped...the rest of the passengers would have been upset (true)...but I bet they would have made sure too that the unruly people sat their asses back in their seats.

He did not follow protocol and he blatantly disregarded FAA law and safety regulations...therefore, he was arrested as he should have been.

There's new information on this story. Slater has lied about the alleged altercation as well as his job record. He only worked at JetBlue since 2008. Prior to that he worked at Bloomingdales selling Burberry accessories. He had the gash prior to the flight and no one provoked him. He was the one swearing at passengers and treating them rudely from the get-go. He's no hero.

Pet peeve: it is "should HAVE", not "should Of". Same with would HAVE, could HAVE, must HAVE, etc. Good grief, is no one literate?

It's kinda scary that the company that built the slide is so excited that it worked. Isn't that what it was supposed to do. Why the adulation? Oh I got it now... PUBLICITY!!!

deke..."It's kinda scary that the company that built the slide is so excited that it worked. Isn't that what it was supposed to do. Why the adulation? Oh I got it now... PUBLICITY!!!" You DO realize don't you that Jet Blue...did not build that slide. Jet Blue is simply the name of the airline, not the manufacturer of the aircraft. Jet Blue flies Airbus 320's and Embraer 190's...neither of those companies are saying a thing.

I can guarantee you if I had been a ground crew member and had been injured by that slide as it came down...I'd have sued his ass!!! What he did truly isn't funny, he could have seriously injured someone on the ground crew with his actions. He is NOT a hero, in my eyes he's not even to be admired for what he chose to do. He had the option to tell the Pilot what was going on...and the Pilot had the option to refuse to dock the aircraft until everyone was in their seats, that would have ensured that the rest of the passengers made sure the unruly ones sat their asses down because no one wants to sit there indefinitely due to someone else's bad behavior. Then the unruly passengers would have been met in the terminal as they disembarked.

What this jerk chose to do instead was inappropriate, childish, and cost Jet Blue money. That slide had to be removed, repacked, and reinstalled by Jet Blue mechanics...which all takes time, causing the consecutive flight to either be moved to another aircraft at another terminal or delayed while all of that was done (which takes a few hours). I'm sure you wouldn't have minded at all being one of the passengers waiting on THAT plane while all of that was done and you either missed your consecutive flight, were re-routed....or simply had to wait a few more hours to get to your destination.

Hey...I was on a flight once when he was the flight attendant and he was adorable!! Great sense of humor, flambouyant and made the trip fun. I remember his face and the dimple in his chin and his sense of humor. Didn't he get his head slammed in the overhead compartment? Sounds like the passenger should be arrested - not this guy. He probably had enough after all those years of putting up with unruly rude passengers.

You know what tho? He could've been really crazy and shot up the place. But no, he went a tad loony and did something silly. NO ONE GOT HURT or was in danger of getting hurt. He lost it, told her off, grabbed some beer and his crap and quit his job. Until you've had enuf of snotty bitch's who looks down on you because of the job you have and treats you like **** on a daily basis, you really have nothing to say on the matter.
Was it the right thing to do Hell no. Understandable? Hell yes.
