David Cassidy -- Busted for DUI

11/4/2010 10:34 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former "Partridge Family" star David Cassidy was arrested in Florida last night on suspicion of  DUI ... after cops found a half empty bottle of bourbon in his 2008 Mercedes.

David Cassidy arrested.
The 60-year-old former teen idol was spotted weaving on and off the road a number of times on Florida's Turnpike around 8:00 PM  ... and was eventually pulled over by a member of the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to cops, Cassidy told the trooper that he'd had a glass of wine around lunch time and popped a hydrocodone painkiller a few hours before the arrest.

In his report, The trooper claims he instructed Cassidy to get out of the car -- and dude was "swaying while standing."  Cassidy took a breath test and blew a 0.139 and 0.141 -- way over the .08 legal limit.

The trooper then searched the car and turned up a half empty bottle of Labrot Graham Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon in the back seat.

We're told Cassidy was taken to a nearby jail and booked for DUI. He was released this morning at 3:22 AM on a $350 bond.

Cassidy's daughter -- "Gossip Girl" actress Katie Cassidy -- was busted for DUI in 2007.

He got a DUI! That doesnt mean he`s an alcoholic!!!!! (`Prancy` & Katie) And it doesnt mean that he`s going down the same path as his Dad! ANYONE who is out and has only a few drinks and gets pulled over will get a DUI! It doesnt take very much alcohol in your system to reach the .08 level on the breathalizer test! Im not saying he didnt have more to drink than that, Im just saying the fact is ANYONE will fail that breathalizer test after only drinking a few drinks.

WTH are so many people here assuming he`s a fricken alcoholic because he got ONE DUI???? It doesnt take much at all to fail that test. Plus, if he also had a prescription med in his system, a pain killer for his back he said, THAT will certainly affect the outcome of any test.. its in the doc that he had left a funeral. Maybe he was depressed and had a few drinks and that along with the prescription pain pill he took is the reason for the DUI.

Most who are dissing on david are hipocrites, 90% of males in the usa drink & drive, if you have just 2 beers you are over the limit in most states, Its only when you get caught that others hear about it.

for all you people that are throwing stones @ him, alcoholism is a disease that never goes away. Just cuz he's a celebrity doesn't exempt him from getting that disease. If you know anything about him, he had problems w/it in his past. I admit he shouldn't have been driving, but I got a DUI with NO alcohol in my system. It was anti-depressants & pain medication for a failed back surgery. I blew a negative breathalizer, but was still charged with being slightly impaired driving. Even a lawyer couldn't get me off. So it can happen to anyone, & you never know the the true story behind it. Everyone needs to be careful nowdays & not talk about anybody else, just it could just as easily happen to you.

Oh yes, like none of you have done anything wrong. None of you are angels I'm sure. I think David was a lot more popular than Lohan. Where were you? Maybe you weren't around at the height of his career. So what if he drinks, he's David, not Keith Partridge. Let's make that perfectly clear.

For those of you who are protecting his image, Jamie for example, please recognize that he is an alcoholic, has been treated for the disease and has relapsed. It happens to many and making excuses for them is not the answer. He needs to either continue or return to treatment. As a fan I am saddened by this news but thank God no one was injured. Stand tall David you have the support of many.

*sigh*

"Wasted days and wasted nights" posts: "I hope no one throws him under the bus for this." Ummmm........ He already threw himself under the bus and was dragged 500 feet. He'll have a little more than road rash to worry about.

The mean spirit behind anonymous posters is so sad. Like the one who made note that his benz was an '08 and not '11? What do you drive? And the ones who dismiss Cassidy as a drunk...did you know he was coming from a funeral? Depending on whose, not an excuse for driving UI but he wouldn't be the first. And the jokes about has-beens are the best of all...almost certainly being made by 'never-weres' and 'never-will-bes.'

He starred in one of the most successful sitcoms of its time, he had the number one record in the WORLD in 1970, to this day, he holds attendance records for concerts...and holds them over the likes of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and continues to sell out medium venues all over the country and world where industry experts marvel at the unusual loyalty of Cassidy fans...who have grown up, gotten on with their adult lives and yet never forgotten the impact this 'has-been' had on their adolescence...to the extent that, wherever he goes, they get dressed, go out, buy tickets and relive their girlhood...a phenomenon unmatched by his 'has-been' colleagues. Through it all, despite having issues, like most of us, he has lived an admirable life, long married and having raised an admirable son. Further, he has a history of consistent genorosity to fans and countless charities.

So, as you might with a cousin, a neighbor, a friend...or maybe your spouse...or yourself, you might nod and acknowledge that it could happen to anyone, wish him the best and remember that there but for the grace of God...

My opinion? DUI arrests are just a way for police departments to make money and it's totally over the top the way they treat regular citizens who simply WEAVE in their car a little. Yes he should have been stopped from driving and perhaps had someone pick him up instead of allowing him to drive. But cuffing him? Come on! I don't agree with any of that crap - it's abusive police state treatment of regular people. It's pre-crime to assume that because he had an open bottle in the car that he would go on to cause an accident. DUI is just another way to have police abuse their power. There is a much nicer way to handle people who are not in control of their vehicle without embarrassing and labeling people this way. This is why more and more people are starting to HATE the police.
