Cam Newton Drama Ignites FBI Investigation

11/9/2010 7:12 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ Sports has confirmed ... the FBI has requested a meeting with a key figure in the Cam Newton college football recruiting controversy to find out if, "young men are being shopped to colleges."

Cam Newton NCAA investigation:

The man feds want to speak with is John Bond -- a former Mississippi State football star. Last week, Bond claimed people connected to Heisman front-runner Cam Newton contacted him back in 2009 and said it would take $180,000 to get Cam to commit to MSU.

Newton eventually committed to Auburn University, where he's now one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

Bond's attorney confirms to TMZ Sports that the FBI has requested a sit-down meeting with his client -- and tells us the agent who contacted him said, "We are interested in whether young men are being shopped to colleges."

Newton has denied any wrongdoing -- and reps for Auburn have stated that Newton remains eligible to play and will start this weekend against Georgia.

where there is smoke there is fire.. Urban Meyer and Mullen were smart not paying the big price for Newton; look at what is going to happen to Auburn..you can't blame anybody except Auburn for this . They should have know better when two other schools turn Preacher Newton down.. Auburn is going to relinquish all of its games in 2010 as well as a BCS berth and SEC championship all because of the selfish alum at Auburn wanting to get ahead of Alabama.. Look who is laughing now.. Go Bama!!

The FBI could care less about NCAA rules. What interests them is large sums of cash being paid out under the table. These payments don't get reported as taxable income by the recipients, as they are trying to keep them hidden. So the FBI is just following the money. I don't know if Cam's father got paid or not, but it seems more than a little suspicious that he decided his son should go to Auburn when Cam apparently really wanted to play for Mullen at State. That is because he was with Mullen when they were both at Florida.

Dan Mullen is deeply involved in this mess. He and John Bond do a joint commercial on WCBI channel 4, Columbus, MS in which they solicit MSU highrollers to buy $195K condos to use for MSU home games. They might as well suggest that since it won't be the guy's last $200K that he should just go ahead and buy some quality players while he has his checkbook open.
So why are we trying to hide Dirt Bag Dan's dirty laundry?

Go Cam, good for you.
Look at the adversity he's been through and what he has accomplished and what he's going to accomplish. He's a strong Christian and gives it all to God and gives thanks to Him. If God is for him, who shall be against him.
