Cam Newton Drama Ignites FBI Investigation

11/9/2010 7:12 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ Sports has confirmed ... the FBI has requested a meeting with a key figure in the Cam Newton college football recruiting controversy to find out if, "young men are being shopped to colleges."

Cam Newton NCAA investigation:

The man feds want to speak with is John Bond -- a former Mississippi State football star. Last week, Bond claimed people connected to Heisman front-runner Cam Newton contacted him back in 2009 and said it would take $180,000 to get Cam to commit to MSU.

Newton eventually committed to Auburn University, where he's now one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

Bond's attorney confirms to TMZ Sports that the FBI has requested a sit-down meeting with his client -- and tells us the agent who contacted him said, "We are interested in whether young men are being shopped to colleges."

Newton has denied any wrongdoing -- and reps for Auburn have stated that Newton remains eligible to play and will start this weekend against Georgia.

The FBI will get to the bottom. FL broke a Federal Law if in fact this was released from FL. However, 2 FL sources who handle cheating, etc. stated that nothing at any time had come across their desk as to CAM cheating or anything else related to grades. I say to Mr. Newton "Sue Them All." I really believe Dan Mullens, Myers, and some sticky fingers of Saban are all over this.

This young man isn't innocent and everyone here knows it. Where there is smoke as the old saying goes. The sad part none of this will effect the millions he makes at the next level. Where all sins of college are forgotten.

Mr. Newton's integrity is not in question here because he has proven he has none. Once a cheater, always a cheater, you can bet your last dollar on that and never go broke!

Someone wants to get Auburn in trouble because of their record. Is it florida or Alabama?

Shouldn't the FBI be hunting for terrorists or something?!

I also hope they knowck on some doors in Florida and Tuscaloosa. I pray they get to the bottom of this and that the character smearing on this boy is finished.
Intersting how the timing of the rumors came out just when it would be front page news at the end of the season and the heisman voting, but late enough so that an investivation could not be completed before the voting!

That's right! The guy is a superb athlete. I would think the FBI should have more pressing issues.

i say boise state... help them get into the BIG game (but thats another topic)

if it was bama, wouldnt they have come out after the sc loss? and florida, well again it would have been earlier too. i think its the media. they LOVED tebow and dont want anyone getting close to the positive attention he got.
